Wtf!  Cant we just say we r roll call members and on the forum?  :)

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that things will not be like this for an MMJ show... i look at mmj fans as a more communal gathering than most concert settings.. i hope i'm right..

That would be nice.   ;D

I dunno.  That last night at T5 was a little like a midnight sale at Walmart, with a race to the rail and the merch table for posters.  No tarps, though.  I suspect it will be a tad more civilized, no doubt.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

That thing with the tarps has gotten mainly big among the jam band crowd. It enables people to save room for their group, allows for some extra fluidity so you can move about, dance, and party with your friends, and it helps establish turf vs. the inevitable tide of drunks filtering down during the show.  I can see both sides of the argument about tarps.

I wouldn't expect it to be quite that crazy for the MMJ show. Tarps or no, there is  that mad rush when the GA section is in the front.

Penny Lane

if someone in GA pulls out their tarp to save spots for their friends coming 2 hours later, i'm going to laugh and set it on fire....not sure why this bothers me so much..

at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest in SF it was weird and the same way. ..it's a sleepy free festival, i can see that...people come and set up their stuff all day and leave it and walk around....so you have to go up and step on their blankets to get anywhere up front even though they're 2 stages over--when they come back, you have to move..that is tolerable because it's free and bluegrass and a sit down/picnic kinda thing.

but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

That shit is effed up!   So what happens if my big toe encroaches on someones tarp?  Do I have to go in front of a special council and beg for mercy?   Or do I just not get passed the left hand cigarette the next time around?   Do they put there name on the tarp cause they are all blue?   So many questions.  I always feel strange when I see thousands of people do something all at once, that I've never known about before.   How can that many people know something that I don't?   I guess if someone dies from running down the bleachers they can just wrap them up in a tarp and keep partying?
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

damn how am i gonna get a poster and still be able to see in THAT

well, obviously...

is this a Red Rocks thing or a Panic thing..?
i heard everyone was up in arms over on the WSP board..
the only jacket fans who'd try that are tbd and bobster because they need to make room for their  sparkly hula hoops..

Crispy

I've been to lots of shows at Red Rocks and never witnessed anything like that, however there have only been a few that I waited in line at the gates for and was never that close.  In fact, the MMJ show in 2008 was the only one I hurried inside for and that's because I came in all the way at the top and was pretty far back in line. Still, I think we got to the 8th row.

The tarp thing is total bullshit and I will join Penny in treating them to my lighter (unless it's trish and bob's). I doubt seriously we'll see much of those, but I'm sure there will be quite a rush for the front rows when the gates open.
"...it's gonna be great -- I mean me coming back with the band and playing all those hits again"

I'm making up 50 buttons with this design for the show. Already got em printing...

I love the way you think.  I hate that bullshit too.

Tarps and beach balls beware.... Penny's in the house. !!  ;)

I believe it is a Panic thing.  Just another check in the column of why I don't like or get their scene.

Had this mental image in my head all day and I would just randomly laugh. It got me through 12 hours of work...thank you. Also...you're sweet on the outside, but I saw your feisty side at hangout when that girl tried to get in your space at the DBT show. You turned around and sliced your arms through the air and mouthed: "No....nooo..." Greatness. I wouldn't put it past you to light something on fire.

I agree with you. Don't get their scene...don't understand it at all. The Jacket crowd HAS GOT TO BE better than that. I mean, hell, strength in numbers and no fool on this board is going to pull that kind of stunt, right?

Nice button design, ewind! I am hoping to get a t-shirt design off the ground if I can get more than an hour not at work, babysitting, shopping for a new car, work, or out drinking copious amounts of beer.

P.S. My vacation was approved today so barring any suck-tacular travel plans I'll see you all there. Can't wait to see Crispy's magnificent dome bobbing in the crowd....will take me back to T5....

I would say it's more of a jam band thing. They do this at String Cheese Incident shows I've gone to too. Would not be surprised if it happened at Phish and Furthur. in prior years. Probably a lot of the same people.

The thing is, are you going to say you can't save room for friends that are coming later that you plan to sit with? Some people have to work during the day. I like having the spouses to come later with fresh food. Agreed that two people saving for ten might be a bit greedy.

thebugman

silly panic kids, never seen or heard of the tarping before. i have mixed feelings about it honestly. if you want to save seats then buy a seat. that tarping crap is BS! or just be man and save the seat...makes me think of the seinfeld episode about saving seats...

i dont have GA tickets and if someone tarps my area there are gonna have more than handful of some mississippi boys and girl getting straight gangsta up in the joint. honestly, leave the tarps at home, im not gonna trip your gf running for the front row, maybe if i was in line for a beer but not the seats..jk..

whatever happened to the good old days? cant wait to get out there and soak it up.
four on the floor and four in the air....

doesn't matter, some of us flew a long way, some people took off work for the day, i would say my tolerance extends to possibly a spouse or one person (provided they bring everyone around them a beer or snack to make up for them crowding your prime GA spot)..i think THAT is good GA etiquette...

I have designated seats at RR and if someone tries to tarp my shit, it's on.  I will drag their hippie asses out of the venue by their fucking nappy dreadlocks.
You need it.  That's for sure.
