Oh what a night! I had the best time, I just wish I could have moved from my spot once to dance with the forum peeps, but I was seeing my favorite band in the most beautiful place along with dear friends from college! It was a beautiful reunion to be sure. But seeing JJ  playing his guitar in the faces of all the forum peeps up front was so fantastic. We were in row 15 (next to Rizzo and his gal!), right above the sound board. It was a great spot and while we had to defend our location early on, we had plenty of dancing spots.

Highlights:

*Off the record - killer jam at the end with fantastic colored lights on the rocks behind the stage
*During Gideon the wind made it's entrance to the show. All night long, at the most appropriate times, a rolling wave of wind would take over carrying the sound up from the stage as if summoning the spirits. Jim mentioned the wind, along with affection for red rocks as a holy place. I concur Jim...
*The Bear>Steam Engine was the smoothest transition I have yet to hear at an MMJ show. It was as if it they always played them together. It was beyond delicious.
*Patrick did what I wrote down as "rolling drums" during the out-jam of Steam engine, whatever it was, I loved it. Kind of had a tribal feel to it. The jam was a monster, with Bo softly landing the music to a soft, twinkling place at the end.
*The freaking dance party that was First Light. The whole place was getting down! Denver and all the fans who traveled to be there, I salute you! I wish all MMJ shows had the energy of the Red Rocks crowd, it was fantastic!
*Honest Man...it was dirty, it was loud, it was huge!
*Jim also talked of the 2 rocks being like 2 loving arms of all that is good and natural in the world. He spoke of our love for them and their love for us. So beautiful, that JJ.
*Dondante, WTF! They did that amazing Vancouver version again (putting the middle jam first then starting at the songs proper beginning after the jam). Thank you, thank you, thank you!
*More notes on Dondante: heavy wind summoning spirits and sound, thick heavy jam with serious (good) fuzz going on moving into an easy swagger, and Carl's sax. He FILLED Red Rocks with his sweet notes at the end. Magical Carl.
*Smoking from shooting - uh, did anyone else notice Tom at the end? Making bass love to his amplifier? Fucking rock-n-roll!
*Strangulation- what can you say? It was such a kick down. So perfect in that setting, the rocks, the wind, the stars!!
*During Mahgeeta there was some crazy noise going through the speakers. It was heavy, weird and messed with the flow of energy. BUT, we must give it up for the boys as they kept going and whatever it was (we think it was some peddle that was on by accident maybe) ended soon enough. Consummate professionals.
*During Wordless, Jim stopped to address something going on in the audience. I think he saw a scuffle or some serious negative energy going on and made sure to call it out so it would stop. Not sure what it was, but I love that Jim brought the peace. And then they just brought it down, dance party style with the rest of the encore...

Sorry for the ramble, but this show was truly on the epic level....

*modified this post so it is easier to follow.

Yeah wiz, right behind us a some a-hole was making a scene being a real burden to security. He was trying to jump into VIP, and I believe he had a scuffle with other people. Just some Dumby I guess

Rizzo's Girl here, of course logged on as Rizzo. I really need to fix that! Excellent recap! We were sitting with our friends and family who appreciate MMJ but aren't quite at the same level with us - so they didn't get the full appreciation for how amazingly special this show was and how rare some of the songs they pulled out were.  For those that were seeing them for the first time last night - I hope they know how lucky they are for this to be their 1st. I kept looking over at your crowd Wizzard, to see your reaction to some of the songs, just so I could feel a connection with someone else who could appreciate how rare and special what we were experiencing was.  Every time I checked in you were as blissed out as I was which was awesome to see.

Our hosting duties with our family in from out of town last night prevented us from hanging in the line and meeting a lot of you guys - which I was hoping we could make up for with a visit to Crispy's cabin today - but sadly, our childcare situation will prevent us from making the trek for that extra bonus hang out time.  BOO!!!

Well, it's official -- not going to this show will go down as one of the biggest regrets of my life. Seemed too daunting of a task logistically, but man, I should have tossed reason out the window and just made it happen.

So Beth and I are sitting here in the Denver airport waiting to catch our flight to NY and still basking in the afterglow of the best two days in a row that I've had since T5.  While we are sad that we couldn't spend one more night here and make it up to Crispy's cabin and spend one more day with many of our Jacket family, the positive vibes and energy from 12 hours of tailgating and music and red rocks and soulshine and crispy high-fives and mr. Steam engine and the always smiling seeker, ewind, yvonne, jane and crazylove and mt girl and EVERYONE and bracelets and bumper stickers and beautiful forum peeps ( sorry, I can ramble on forever)......

There are too many wonderful people to name but we will cherish all of the great moments under the tent with you guys and enforcing vip status and being first two rows dead center and guy burwell posters. And the music and the setlist and the show and the weather and the vibe and RED ROCKS!  If there is a better way to spend a day and a night, I don't know it.

So glad we will see so many of you next week at MP. Eric, Liz, Laura & Ky - all of the good times in just the past year to be continued next week (in the front of the pit no doubt). And as for the drumstick souvenir girl who wants to be at MP - you will certainly be there in spirit even if you head north instead of south.  No doubt ther will be many more family reunions.

Thanks everyone for making it all special and keeping it real.
was some shakin' and some record playin'

Ditto. I was content with my decision to not attend...until late Wednesday night, as I scoured Priceline & began crafting totally impossible contingency plans.

Thanks to everyone for making this the best concert I've been to! Tailgating and meeting all the forum peeps (and non forum peeps) was so much fun. Although we missed a few, the wiz, rizzo, dafunky (although I think a have picture of you), etc. It was our pleasure to provide some shelter from the storm. Special thanks to Ky, Liz, Jeff, Eric and Chris for helping us out when we had battery troubles....twice.
The rain, the swag, the people watching, the hikes up the hill, the hikes to the bathroom with soulshine  ;)...I think I had a stupid grin on my face the entire time!  And I'm glad we ended up staying at the sheraton. What a great group of people! I've made some friends for life. Thanks again everyone!!!
oh and the show was pretty amazing too, several songs I hadn't seen live. Front row right in front of Jim with tons of fans who flew/drove long distances to see it. set list, burwell, pretty much was the perfect time. PERMAGRIN.
Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.

.this was hands down the best concert going experience I ever had.

During Dondante I went up row 30 and watched it from above...I could feel Jims spirit channeling something - a spirit, a God, ...a friend.  It was quite emotional.

During Slow Slow Tune, Jim straight up made eye contact with my girl friend which LITERALLY crippled her knees.  She had to sit down after ward.

Now..I was front row and CENTER for this show - the miracle of getting these tickets is beyond me - but the overwhelming emotional joy I got from attending this show will forever go unmatched.  Now, I don't ever get really star struck...but being that close to Jim James and The Boys was too much.  It made it all real - he saw me, I saw him.  It removed a lot of the mystic the band for me...but in the end it gave me something even better - knowing that the band is real.  it's not a hoax.  it's not a dream.  it's not out of reach.  it's was right there...i could touch it.

We gave the flag to their sound engineer who complimented all of us on our rocking out. They asked us to sign it with a note...I wrote something like this. "Thank you for all the love you have put in each of our hearts - the happiness you give each and everyone blah blah blah. Love, Katee, Casey and every MMJ fan"

See you guys at the next big one.
God damn those shaky knees.

i really like this clip.. where Yim stops in the middle of the song to make sure everyone's "alright" (skip to 2:18)

and then just jumps right back into the jam

DaFunkyPrecedent

was their a fight? what happened? give me the good gossip!
God damn those shaky knees.

Has anyone gotten their promo poster in the mail? Im still outa town and am nervous about it arriving this week. Was it shipped UPS or Fed Ex or USPS? I put a hold on all mail from USPS.

mine has not yet arrived.  will be a nice 1-2 punch with the burwell.

The scuffle was one row behind. According to penny lane security had to jump into the crowd to get rid of a guy. I turned around and saw two dudes on the ground then heard Jim stopping the song. Weird moment but kind of appropriate for the randomness of the evening.

Every Jacket show is unique and deserving of an "oh my god that was incredible" review. This one was nuts and surreal and amazing. The guys HAD to know that the front and center section was taken up by us crazies. TEO swears he saw Jim wave at Penny and I just know Jim checked out crazylove several times. How could they not notice us? We were insane...hugging each other, dancing, jazz handing and doing the "hey hey hey hey!!!" during the end of touch me pt 2.

Great to meet mntgirl, Vespa, TEO, crazylove, e wind (and his awesome buttons!!!), Seeker and so many others who showed up.

One final note.... A special thank you to Crispy who put us up in his cabin, fed us delicious food (oh that guacamole!!) and kept the fire going until late in the night. You put together something very special there my friend and it was much appreciated. That Crispy Manual is going to sell like hotcakes!!

Loved your review wizard!!! You were spot on about the wind. Amazing.

I think the highlight was the way they played Dondante. Someone else could probably explain it better but it seemed to start with the jam and then they went on to play the full thing. Whew...
