If any of you want to see a Dead concert movie in the theaters, Hidden Track is reporting that April 19 you can:

"Deadheads will have a chance to see the Grateful Dead on the big screen come April 19, when movie theaters across the country will show the group's previously unreleased July 18, 1989 performance from Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin."

Cool, Fully, thanks, I hadn't heard about that.  I was at the Alpine Valley '89 run, and it would be fun to relive it in a theater.

The press release says that the following night to the one being shown in theaters on 4/19/12 (7/18/89) was previously released, but that isn't true.  The prior night (7/17/89) was released on the DVD "Downhill from Here", though that DVD does have the second half of the first set of 7/19/89.

Has anyone seen that Downhill from Here DVD?  Of the roughly 125 Grateful Dead shows I saw, that 7/17/89 Alpine Valley show would probably be in my top 5.  The second set of that show is just magic, and the DVD captures a great moment, the uncontrollable grin on Jerry's face as he is singing his "I wish I was a headlight..." line in I Know You Rider for the second time with the band just thundering behind him.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I have the Downhill from Here DVD and it's great.Prolly going to the theatre to see this concert.

Didn't know if anyone had heard of this yet or not:

Bob Weir Webcast in March With Members of The National

Looks like the Devendorf brothers (drummer and bass player for The National) are going to be teaming up with some other Brooklyn musicians to play both Dead and National songs as well as some other covers with Weir.

I FINALLY listened to some official live albums and have to say not only am I an instant dead fan, I think I may start listening to jam bands altogether
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Thought I should share the merch link, if any of you are so inclined.   It supports a great cause!   And the poster is phenomenal!  Gorgeous.  Looks way more expensive than it is.

;D ;D

Ewind - I figure you know this if I read this post correctly but I'd definitely differentiate the Dead from "Jam Bands."  The Dead are the Holy Grail whereas I find many modern "Jam Bands" to be generic and somewhat (soul)less.  Then again I love the most soulful band in the history of music so :-\rush

Here's a little Jerry/Crosby combo.... they ran a whole gamut of Walking in the Mountains demos... and I've probably gone on too much already about that whole thing being the inspiration for Furthur's "Mountain Song," but here's one of my favorite of the demos;

Short but so sweet!! Enjoy!   :)

I'm wondering about this as well.  It sounds strange to be out of your seat in a movie theater, but I don't think I would be physically able to remain seated for this.

It was so freaking cool!  The band was phenomenal.  Added a whole new dimension to the songs that I've heard 1000x over.  And the Esau!  :thumbsup:
