(A) you're a hugely influential musician, cited as an inspiration to countless other big name acts who either mean it or want to try and earn bogus cred, but you never reach commercial success or widespread fame beyond the artists and snobby fans (think: Alex Chilton, Warren Zevon)

(B) you're a hugely successful musician with a number of platinum albums, 3 songs about having your sexy parts on fire, but not a total sell out - whatever cred you have is undermined by your ability to sell to moms and teenagers, but you really don't care because you wipe your butt with $1,000 bills.
