First off let me say that I love this band so much and being from KY myself have always felt that extra connection to the band because of that.
I have seen 8 live shows and every show was absolutely amazing.  Especially the epic show at the Waterfront Park in Louisville in 2008.

With that said I am afraid that have this feeling, after seeing the setlists role in from this tour, seems like they are going through the motions when choosing songs each night.
I understand they are out promoting Circuital but do they really have to open up with the same 2 or 3 songs every night.

Not only are they playing the same first couple songs every night but the setlists are almost identical minus a couple songs in the middle of the set each night.

I have seen 2 shows on this tour and even though they performed their asses off each night, the setlists were very bland.

I really think the band needs to take a step back and remember the long time fans who want to see the old stuff and rarities like (Nashville to Kentucky),  (O is the one that is Real), (Old September Blues), (Masterplan) and on and on.

I have tickets to the Cincy show and my excitement has unfortunately been at a low due to seeing these setlist come in each night.

From a long time fan who has spent tons of cash on this band from tickets, to vinyl, to tshirts, etc.
I guess this is a desperate plea for the band to please mix it up some.
I really think it is a reasonable request.

Erm...  they're touring the new album.  Opening two will always be VD and Circuital.  In case you hadn't noticed, they played all of their albums live in NY last year.  They've also busted out The Bear and Strangulation along with some other oldies on this tour.  I'm really not sure what else you want - a time machine to 2003?

@ INDIFFERENCE MAKER:

"a reasonable request?" nope.

while i certainly appreciate your appreciation for the band's older music, what I can't understand is how you've somehow equated setlist picks and sequence of songs with "going through the motions." let's be real. is there any band in the US that goes through the motions LESS? those guys give 150% on stage and that's probably why you've chosen to see them three times as they support the same album. if you somehow feel less enthused to see them in Cincinnati because you feel the setlists are "bland," I suggest you start actually listening to the music you profess to love so much or stay home.

i'm not sure why you felt the need to include the fact that you spend "tons of cash" on vinyl and tshirts but I get the feeling that you believe that that somehow gives you the right to be a whiny entitled fan. mmj owes you nothing. get real.
