You'd have to make your way up to New Hampshire for that one and i think the students would notice a "stranger" taking Mr. Yacks poster!  Lol

Don't mean to be the resident hater but I actually disagree with the notion of advertising your favourite band in public school, just because you like them.  Kids already have enough distractions all around them... even if MMJ is a worthy distraction... Seems like community events and other things that get kids involved or active might be more worthy than a webcast.
I'm sure you are a wonderful teacher and mean no disrespect, and you probably post all kinds of good things on your door.  I dunno... maybe it's just cuz I had this french teacher in grade 5 who used to insist on playing French child pop star Jordi in class every day... drove me insane!
PS - Nice poster!

This is really petty, Buster.

Hey Resident Hater--Quirky Science teachers like JYac and TEO make the world go round. When I was in school, I wish I'd had teachers who got excited about anything. I nominate your opinion as worst opinion of the year. Pfffffffffftttttttttttttttttttttt
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

SHiiiiittt maaaannnnn!!!  Again I re-iterate that I mean no disrespect to anybody, their profession, their fandom, or the glory of MMJ.  I don't know any of you personally but I know you are all great people, Mr. JohnnyYac included!  Don't mean to ruffle too many feathers here, but in the interest of debate...

Let's say a teacher was obsessed with Justin Bieber... had his picture on the wall... posted news and updates about Bieber shows on his door and played Bieber every morning in an effort to influence his pupils to dig Bieber... would you consider this appropriate behaviour in the public school system?

dating myself but my 6th grade science teacher was obsessed with Paula Abdul...you opened up the closet and there was a people sized poster of her in his room. when his wife visited the classroom, it was our job to make sure she didn't open the closet. it was funny...nothing more. it's fine, it's appropriate..there are so many bigger problems with the education system, passionate teachers like JohnnyY are the biggest asset to the public school system...i'm sorry your teacher had such shit taste in music, though....

PS when i visited TEO, he took me on a tour of his classroom and showed me all the things his kids were planting and doing...we've got the best teachers around on here, it's only a plus that they have great taste in music

(okay okay, i'm off my soapbox now)

Don't see any real need to debate anything here.  Interesting, creative, educator who also happens to be a MMJ fan trying to pay it (the Jacket love) forward.  Just sayin'.

I hear you, BusterD.  I try not to go overboard, but I figure the kids will need to know why they have a sub when I head to NYC.  ;)  Also, I need to lay the groundwork for my next big Omnichord performance during winter carnival!

I ask my students to share their passions as well, so that I might better connect our biology, zoo, genetics, or physical science concepts to their lives.  The emotional and physiological responses to music, considering the diversity of musical tastes, is facinating.

Funny thing, we had an Open House two nights ago, and two of my students' parents took tags about the webcast.  One asked his daughter to have me make him a Lollapalooza DVD.

By the way, don't forget the webcast!

Are we chatting here or on the You Tube page?  Turns out I've got nothing else going, so I'll be watching and look for some of you tomorrow night.
