The current Penn Station is a windowless hell hole, dis-organised and loathed by everybody in the try-state area.

It is convenient, but utterly charmless.

Totally agree.

The only thing I like about it is it's convenience.

quick question.... I bought 2 GA tix for MSG then bought another 2 GA tix about 30 mins later. I know you could buy up to 4 tix but im not sure if it had to be 1 transaction. I just dont want the order cancelled or anything. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. Thanks

I wish I was there to have seen the original Penn Station. It looked absolutely amazing from photos. Made Grand Central look down right utilitarian by comparison.

I actually work in Grand Central Terminal (as a Chef). It is my favorite public space in the world . GCT is not a church or cathederal or temple or royal palace, but a breath-taking, functioning, monument for the people. Coming into work everyday is inspiring. But it is true: it seems that everyone that saw them both, found the Original Penn to be, well, grander.

(I did not see the original - nope, not that old.)

By an amazing twist of fate: I have a free multiple million dollar condo to stay at in manhattan. My sisters in laws are loaded apparently. Sooo stoked. Last time they went to NYC she treated them to Yankees game behind 1st, a broadway, the daily show, and some 4 star restaurants. My trip just got so exciting
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

I contacted Stout NYC to see if we might get a room for preshow, but it requires mucho $$$ and I doubt we can guarantee who will come when.  For what its worth, they reserve rooms for a minimum 10 people but require food/drink purchase, can do 2 hour open bar for $25 per person, have extensive hors d'ouvres menu, etc.  Still, as some will come later than others and we may spend more time in line, perhaps we just play it by ear.

Like Brooke, I am very excited for this.

As TP says, the waiting is the hardest part...
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

John,

We did a Genesis pre/post-party there in 07, and no need for a room. We kinda took over the downstairs where the dart boards are. Nice little bar there, and another bigger bar just down the hall.

For most shows at MSG, the place is packed with fans, and they usually have some of the band's dvd's playing on the tv's.

For Phish last NYE, the whole place was packed with Phans, and we just made our way around the whole place meeting up with other Phans. Still don't know how I missed Brooke that night!! That definitely won't happen this time. ;)

I'm sure for Jacket, some of us will get there early enough to scope the place out, and see if we can't secure a nice sized area. The main bar area is pretty big, and probably be the best spot to start. Like you said, we'll probably just have to play it by ear. One thing though... they don't usually open the downstairs until dinner time, so with a lot of us doing ga, we'll most likely be gone by then.

Stout has a nice selection of beer, and if anyone wants to eat, their food is pretty good too.

Count me in on the excited list!

If anyone is looking for something to do the night before... Sharon Jones is playing Bowery Ballroom!!!

http://www.boweryballroom.com/event/69203

(looks like she's actually doing 2 nights at bowery... and 2 nights at Music Hall of Williamsburg...)

If you've never seen her before... do yourself a favor and check her out. Especially in these small venues. These shows will sell out quick.

Man weird that shes playing NYC and not opening for MMJ since she is on the west coast

OH. MY. GOD.

Could this trip get any better?!?! This is more than a dream come true. This is just... unbelievable. The queen of funk and her Dap Kings; the boys from Kentucky the next night -- it doesn't get any better than this folks.

For those who frequent these hot Bowery Ballroom shows, do you think a schmuck like me stands ANY chance of grabbing a pair of tickets when they go on sale on Friday? Next to MMJ, SJDK are probably my favorite band, and it would KILL me to miss this while I'm in the city. Is there usually a Bowery presale or anything like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

WSS2

you can easily get tix through AMEX pre-sale...just get online at noon on Weds

you can easily get tix through regular on-sale...just get online at noon on Fri

If you get online right when they go on, you'll have no problem, wait til later in the afternoon...no promises

Will definitely sell out, Bowery only holds about 500 people and SJDK usually play 2k - 3k capacity venues in NYC (albeit usually only 1 or 2 night stand).

Just get tickets when they go on sale if you really want to go. You won't have a problem at the onsale time.

She played a free show in Prospect Park last summer and 20,000 people must have showed up to that thing. It was insane. Literally couldn't move in there.
