So nothing about T5 in this announcement?

I'm hoping for an Xmas release but they could be waiting until Record Store Day.

JFC! I soooo wanna do Houston but my car was crashed last week, I'm gonna be bankrupt for a couple of months.

ahhhhh!!!

johnnYYac

I really doubt we'll see the T5 box set until maybe 6+ months from now.  Record Store Day might make sense, as they like to bring something special each year to that.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

IMPORTANT QUESTION

I bought 2 tix via the Roll Call pre-sale.  I understand it's inefficient but I actually want to buy 2 more.  Will there be any logistical issues preventing this?  Don't want risk a cancelled order, will call pick up nightmare, etc.

You should be OK. For the fall tour, was on Roll Call presale, bought 2 tix for Charlotte, then 2 more people wanted to go, so I bought 2 more a couple days later. Had no problem with the order, or will call pickup.

Am I the only one who is highly disappointed in their venue choice for SF?  Bill Graham Civic Center sucks BIG TIME. Bleck. I never miss bay area shows because: it is so close, they always kick down when they play SF, and I have a ton of wonderful friends there who all adore MMJ. But I can't get past the venue choice, worst venue in all of SF IMO. They should consider 2 night runs at The Warfield.  Now that would be magical.

*I do hear from friends that Another Planet is upgrading the sound system, but really the problem is the acoustics, and I can't see a solution for that.

You're not alone, I hate the BGC as well, it's terrible. Unfortunately not many other mid size indoor bay area venues, but I think I'd almost prefer the cow palace.  I'll still be there.

I went to see Soundgarden at the Bill Graham Civic in July.  It seemed to me that the sound was much better for that show than previous shows.  However, the sound does bounce around the venue quite a bit.  There were serious vibrations going on between The Mars Volta and Soundgarden that night.

Beggars can't be choosers.  As much as I'd love another Fillmore run, they've just gotten too big for that venue now.  Same with the Warfield.  I'll take the BGC over the Oakland Arena, that's for sure.

The Fox is the same size as The Warfield, I thought. MMJ has not outgrown those venues, IMO. Granted, having Sharon Jones joining them draws a whole new crowd and makes it a bigger event. But I feel that MMJ is in that perfect sweet spot of popularity where they can play awesome theaters that hold ~2200, be guaranteed to sell out the show, AND sound good to the audience. This beggar, at 36 years old, is definitely a chooser. Have fun as i am sure the show will be, but I am hard pressed to spend the $500 for us to fly to the bay for my favorite band to play an acoustic nightmare...

Hm, that's interesting.  I've never been to the BGCC and was planning on a road trip! I'm in the same boat as you Liz, lot's of friends and fam in the bay area and it's always a good reason to get down there.  But it ain't cheap and with the holidays, and driving over the icy pass, for a sub-par venue??? Not sure we're down for this.   :-\ I can't believe I just said that....
My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

I think the paramount in Oakland would have been a great choice, beautiful venue with a capacity over 3K. BGCC is just awful, totally agree with wiz. It's a no-brainer for us though, another jacket show in the bay was an unexpected treat.

I did an analysis of MMJ's growth in NYC from 2001 to 2011:

Anyone here see that Brownie's show?

If I'm missing any headlining gigs, please let me know!

Both the Fox and Paramount are larger than the Warfield. The Paramount is slightly bigger than the Fox, except that it's all seated and very tight on booze, smoke, etc... there are never big rock shows there anymore for this reason. They probably would have done the Fox again except that they sold it out real fast last time and can definitely sell many more tickets than the Fox can hold. Not sure if they'll sell out BGCC, and I know it's not that great of a venue, but come on folks... you honestly think it's a big enough of a factor to make it not be another effin awesome jacket show? On the plus side, it's a super convenient location for public transit in the city, BART, hotel options for out of towners, etc. Get close to the stage since it's all GA and I doubt you'll be thinking about the acoustics much at all. A lot of great bands with an ear for good sound play there all the time, so I'm sure they'll be able to work with it just fine...

that was just.....  downright painful..

I hear what you are saying, and if I lived in the bay area I would surely be there.  I have caught all the shows in SF since NYE Fillmore and have always had a great time at great shows.  But I can't justify flying down there for BGCC.  And while being up front is fun and all (I love being in the thick of it), acoustically it isn't the best spot to be in.  And once you step back a bit at BGCC, well the sound just dissipates and bounces around.

Like I said, I am sure it will be one hell of a show.  But the band (if they even check this site anymore) should know the opinion of those in the audience.  That is all.

Yeah I get that-- Normally I'm a major sound geek myself but can't resist the pull of a full frontal from the jacket, regardless of sound.

yeah boca is all ga.  its a cool flat outdoor venue in between the city and the everglades, like there is nothing else in civilization past this park.  i saw the lips there one year ago tonight... weird.
