UNCUT magazine has a great article each month called My Life In Music where artists talk about music that has had an impact on their life.

"Jim James on the records that still move him"

The Record That Decided My Destiny: Dinosaur Jr - Fossils

My Comfort Album: John Prine - ST

My Unlikely Influence: James - Laid

The Song I Want Played @ My Funeral: Sam Cooke With The Soul Stirrers - The Last Miles Of The Way (overdubbed 1970)

My Favourite Concept Album: Eels - Electro Shock Blues

Record With The Best Reverb Ever: Louvin Brothers - Satan Is Real

Record That Reminds Me Of Home: Grandpa Jones - 8 More Miles To Louisville

Record That Got Me Into Funk Synths: Marvin Gaye - Trouble Man

My Latest Discovery: John Callahan - Purple Winos In Rain

In the article Jim comments on how & why these records have affected him.

Cheers Kory. Yeah I love articles like this!

I'll give people a few days to find the article/magazine if they want to/can & then I'll post some of Jim's comments  :)

everything is perfect about this thread.

i feel like the world is a better place because of that reference to James' Laid. it's good to see someone acknowledging a sometimes overlooked band. That's one of those albums that, when I want to hear it, nothing else will do.

This is a great album.

Unfortunately, John Callahan passed away July 24th due to complications stemming from his quadraplegic state. He was only 59.

Jim has some great tastes when it comes to music.  And yes, Laid is a great album.  Actually, James has a couple of good ones.  Millionaires would be another one.
