Maybe there is a corporation out there that is not evil  ;) ...did I ever mention that I am slightly bitter  ::) ?  It seems that people/entities that hold financial power are benefiting from this recession while the rest of us get screwed.  The table has been set for the big corps to gobble up other big corps to become incontestable behemoths at the blink of an eye, while we are all distracted by this bs banter about "socialism".  How ironic is it that we are being suckered into fighting over how much the "poor" class gets from the country, when the richest guys are all raping every one of us right now...all with the cooperation..maybe collusion.. of our govt :-\ .  Anyway...if corporations succeed in their efforts to seize control of our internet...ugh...

The quote from Spiderman - with great power comes great responsibility - is derived from Plato's notion in the Republic that who better to know how to kill you than a doctor, who better to know how to steal your money than a banker. Those that know how to fix a problem the best also know the best way to cause it.

Such is the issue with corporations. They are the only reason many people have any notion of a retirement fund, and they're also the only reason that fund was pillaged. However, before we place the blame in one area, let's go down to DC and see what's become of the social security fund and who plundered that.

To strike a balance between the power/responsibility, we have things called regulations. When those regulations are made by the weasel to "not allow them in to the hen house", well, of course they mean nothing when otherwise the weasel will starve.

So, for example, if Kodak had the same lobby as the MAFIAA, we'd all see digital cameras made illegal.

Not defending the corps, but being so anti-corporate as a reaction to corporate action is letting them control you just the same.

I enjoyed this layman's analogy culled from a New York Times op piece comparing SOPA and its attempt to stop online piracy with stopping DVD piracy in NYC by blowing up all the bridges and tunnels leading into Manhattan because of one DVD vendor in Union Square but leaving the vendor alone.

It looks like yesterday was a very productive day for the Anti SOPA/PIPA people. At least twenty-five senators and quite a few members of the House are pulling their support of the bills. Yay!
