And about 30 seconds of the back of my head!   ;D

I feel like that kid in So I Married An Axe Murderer...it's like an orange on a toothpick...it's like Sputnik!

"He's gonna cry himself to sleep tonight on his wee pillow!"

I was keepin' it chest high on the At Dawn vid, but, yeah, there were times when you were just perfectly blocking my view of Jim. lol
Shows: 10.27.07, 9.19.08, 8.15.10, 6.24.11, 12.2.11, 9.15.12, 8.4.13, 10.26.13

Did anyone else hear that guy who kept yelling "JIM JAMES" on repeat during every slow part of any song or quiet part in between songs?  Wonderful -> Dondante he was obviously completely bored...except for Off The Record.  Yeah, he's one of those douche Z fans.  Before yelling "Jim James" he kept yelling "LAY LOW, play LAY LOW. LAY LOW. LAAAAAAAY LOOOOOOOW. LAY LOW!!"  He couldn't handle Golden, or I Will Sing You Song and definitely couldn't handle Moving Away.  Jesus, it was terrible...right at the very end where there's that silent part before the band kicks back in and Jim goes into those angelic closing vocals, this fuckin' ass monkey yelled, in the middle of the song, "JIM JAMES!".  You simply had to laugh at the fucker. You know, I was thinking of the whole irony of the name Jim James...a name he once created so it would be easier for people to pronounce... turned into more of a plague Friday night.  There was a couple of times Jim noticed it and kind of laughed at the idiot yelling his name.  I kept thinking it was why he didn't address the audience all that much...like he didn't want to encourage the behavior.   You notice...Jim only bantered once and said some stupid bullshit about all the people in SF being beautiful.  Usually he says something about how beautiful the venue is...but he obviously wasn't going to say that about the Civic - god, there is NO charm to that concrete hole.  It did sound great though...they've really done a lot of work on the acoustics in that place the last couple of years.

Other than that...what a show!  My newbie friends thought it was a little "slow"...which it was....I guess.  I don't really think of that shit when I'm at a Jacket show...but friday must have been a little tiresome for the fans really love Z -> Circuital. That whole middle section of Wonderful, At Dawn, IWSYS, Golden, Heartbreakin (not a slow song but a song none of them knew) and then Smokin', Moving Away and Dondante...did kind of drag a little bit...as in drag I mean to say, made my panties wet. But you could tell a lot of the non Jacketeers were losing attention a little.  I guess you could call it a "heady" set. Thank god I ate some shrooms before...that was FUN!

I've never seen the band play so loose though.  So many awesome little jams before and after and in the middle of songs.  What the fuck was that little guitar breakdown in Golden? How about that awesome little Carl jam before Touch Me?  Jim vocals at the end of Wordless caught me off guard for sure. That awesome interlude before Off The Record?! How about his chanting to the folk gods after "Wonderful"?  That was sooo fuckin' beautiful!

Also, I've never seen the band, ie JIM, act so theatrical.  It's more than a rock and roll song now.  During Touch Me there was that part where he was acting like a Frenchman smoking a cigarette seducing a woman. The pancho during Cobra.  Lots of spinning and dancing and squiggling around.  The band used to huddle around the drum kit and rock the fuck out...now, they all seem in their own zones, putting on their own show within the whole big show.  It sure was a blast to watch.  SUCH a blast!

Complaint:  What the FUCK was going on with those screens during Dondante.  They looked like SHIT.  It distracted me so much.  It just looked like a projector moving dots around on some screens in a chaotic fashion.  Did anyone else notice this?  I'll try to find video of it...it was, for a lack of a better word, unprofessional.  Luckily the music on point, as always.   Fuck those screens...those screens suck.  The visuals during Im Amazed look like a 1990's computer golf game.  The only one that's cool is the Z Wordless Birds and the lanterns during Smoking...other than that, they provide nothing to the show.  They should invest in a real light rig and just travel with that...they don't need screens - screens are for people who either have art that is choreographed with the music (Tool) or for bands who music is so mediocre that they need screens to make up for their lack of talent (Kings Of Leon).

-See ya'll soon.  Danz, nice to meet you man.
God damn those shaky knees.

This setlist is just silly....praying for something like this in NYC

I totally just had a flashback of that old dude (and I'm old, so I can say that) pulling a Widespread Panic in the middle of the floor!  TAPING HIS SHEET DOWN.  In the middle of the floor.  And laying down for a read.  WTF???

I need better video of COBRA.  My memory is already failing.  Those moves Jim was throwing down.  I hope you MSG peeps get a taste of that.  Because it was awesome.

EDIT: this vid is pretty sweet: My Morning Jacket - Cobra live @ Bill Graham Civic, SF - Dec 2, 2011

 ;D Well done Danz.

eric - I'm so glad to have seen you again too!  What a great show to share together. Too bad we didn't have a smidge more room on the rail for you!  It was getting pretty crowded up there.  We lost about 24" due to some drunk crashers. boo.  Still, it was prob my second favorite show ever, after NYE 2008.

(Oh, I forgot about Carl's pick! I wonder where I put it..... :embarassed:)

TEO "It's probably blood, semen, or puke----but no bigger than a nickel" (on why Crazylove was completely overreacting about the bedding at the Dude Ranch)---funniest thing i've heard ALL YEAR.

Great pics from @Eric_Mayers from San Fran

These are beautiful!  :) There are more from the night on Jay's facebook page.   Some good ones of Jim in Pooch's pancho:

He was right near us most of the night - really nice guy.  All the other photographers had to leave after 3 songs but he must have some arrangement because he got to stay.

I've been swooning over the poncho pics.  Jay's awesome...super nice guy to everyone all the time.  Just a really great dude.  He's always got carte blanche.  Same thing at High Sierra this summer.  Everyone else was shut down a few songs in and he was there all night (even snapped a few of my friend and me riding the rail!)   ;)
