Big Bruce fan here, so not surprised to read about his generosity. He does tons of that, but for the most part it's not something that gets much pub.

I really liked the part about him loving New Orleans, and wanting to be involved.

For cheap rooms at Jazz Fest, last year for the 2nd weekend, I booked a cheap hotel a couple of miles outside the Quarters and then about 3 days before I left, I got the Sheraton on Canal St. for $65 for Thur. night on Priceline.  Then I booked the Marriott on Canal St. on priceline for $115/nt for Friday and Sat. night.  Then on Sat. I got the Chateau LeMoyne in the Quarters for Sun. night for $59.  But I'm a pro on bidding on rooms.

This year I used my credit card miles ($100) and got a suite in the Quarters for Thur. nite and since I will have wheels, I've booked the Hilton at the Airport for $59/nt for Friday and Sat.   I'm bringing my bike so I'll have lunch (best poboys in the World) each day at Parkway Bakery and Tavern, then leave my car there and pedal 1.5 miles to the fairgrounds.  I'll skip the Fest Friday and will be touring NO on my bike most of the day.

Can't wait to see Hansard/Vedder Thru

(Glen Hansard w/ Eddie Vedder "Falling Slowly" PJ20 9/4/11 HD)  MMJ, PHJB, Levon, Steve Earle on Sat. and Sunday will be cool too.  Hope I can stumble upon one or two private shows at the clubs too but ya have to get lucky there. 

If you've got the patience to wait it out, there may be some good deals as the event gets closer.  In the past I've used Priceline and Hotwire and gotten really good deals ($70/night for a 4*), but recently it seems as if those deals are few and far between.
