This will be the 5th or 6th show that I will be attending where several of you have also been. I even posted a very dark picture from the Carl show where Ms Yvon said she was in the background. Is there some location we can meet just to put a real face to the name? Maybe meet up for a drink befroe the show? I may not have much time as I had to convince my boss to let me and a friend leave work early. We will be leaving Ventura about 5:15.
good thought, rincon!  i'll poke around this afternoon to see if i come up with anything. if we miss out before the show at least we can have a post-show geek out moment.  ;D
I got to get my friend back home ASAP after the show. He did not get Thursday off like me, but I WILL be at Amoeba on Thursday.
Dang, I was hoping for some serious post-show moves-throwing pics.

Is there a close bar(walking distance) to the Mayan?  I will also stick around after the show tomorrow in case I cant make it to the pre-show shindig. Count me in for the Amoeba show too!!!

Am I the only one who is thinking about buying 2 vinyl copies to be signed and keeping one for myself? The second one would be one hell of an investment.

Im not sure if I can splurge on tow records, but Im definitely planing on getting myself one. Maybe I can persuade my sister to give me an early birthday present.

Maybe Sharon Jones can buy you one. It is not like she does not owe you . BTW, I was either too late or not paying attention for your moment in history. Check your PM and see if it came out making sense. It took me quite a while to set it up, and I am not sure how it went.

Hello all, first time poster, occasional lurker...

So I went to the New Multitudes show tonight...like others on here, wasn't sure what to expect as far as MMJ stuff, so here's a heads up for others going to other dates on the tour.

After the opening group (Sarah Jaffe, who I had never heard of but was quite good), they played I think 10 of the 12 songs on the New Multitudes album to start off the show. Jim (can't call him Yim) was stationed on the far right of the stage the whole time, and his songs (My Revolutionary Mind, Talking Empty Bed Blues and Changing World) seemed to get the most energy from the crowd, and he talked about his history here (a reference to Okonokos being filmed here, I'd guess).

In the encore, each of the four guys came out to play a song solo, and Jim was last, playing Wonderful. He talked about how he came to join the other guys in the project...then they all came out at the end of Wonderful, and they played a few more songs together, including The Way That He Sings.

All in all, I'd give the show an A-, but that's just because I'm greedy and wish it was all MMJ stuff all the time, but they all were entertaining and it was well worth the money.

Cheers!

Just back from the Fillmore, Jim is where you would expect him to be on the far right. They played the first disk front to back. Great live! After a break they each came out and did some of their own stuff. Jim played Wonderful and TWTHS, which rocked but not full on MMJ. He played the bass most of the show, he definitely has a grove with it. They ended the show with another Woody song Pastures of Plenty, beautiful!
The Fillmore is pretty amazing, maybe I am just new to how SF does shows. We easily got to the front of the stage and could lean on it like at the Brooklyn Bowl. There is a waitress that tours the audience. Though i didn't eat, they serve food. And the most amazing part, they make their own posters for some of their shows including this one!!! West coast hospitality!  :)

Sounds like a great show!

Set list anyone?

thanks for the pics, bluesky!
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

The first set was the 1st disk start to finish, Danz took a photo of the only set list that (the second half) made it out, a girl next to me with longer arms snagged it :( Jim was definitely the rock star of the show! I sent br00ke and penny some photos, but as yac knows I'm not pro at putting them up...

Anybody planning on  meeting up before the NYC Webster hall show?

Hilarious!!!  ;D   Yeah, maybe I can collect some alimony after our love making from that night.  I cant view the pictures from work, but hopefully I can view them from home before the show. I'll check them out around 4:00 this afternoon. In case I cant view them I'll send you a PM with my number so you can text me when you get there.

Definitely! If anyone has suggestions, post it. Think Headhunter was going to find a place. I know a few bars near WH, but nothing that's spectacular...and the pool hall's across the street.

i looked for a place near mayan for drinks. the best i found looking online is the spring street bar.  it's about a 15 min walk from the venue, so not that close.  there is likely someplace closer, but i don't know what it is.  the comments about "great beer selection" were piqued my interest.

i'll ask around today to see if there is anything better.

i know there is a pub close to LA Live.  I think it's on Figueroa but i can't remember the name.

there is always a chance i'll just be standing in line at the venue, too.  ;D

If you're not opposed to skanky dive bars try: Hank's (on GRAND between 8th & 9th, at the Stillwell Hotel) - free popcorn; or the Back Door Pub at the Milner on Flower (below 8th) - good juke box.  My old tried and true haunts from my days downtown.  If your all shmancy, you're talking to the wrong girl.

EDIT: these are actual dive bars, not the kind that serve tallboys.  Although they may have been taken over by hipsters by now for all I know. It has been 5 years since I left Smell-A.
My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

Thanks the 411 on all the pubs that are close by  . I'm not if I'll have time for the pre-show gathering being that I want to make sure I get first dips on the rail (Jim's side). What time are you guys planning on getting there?

The Village Pourhouse on 3rd Avenue & 10th Street is less than a block away from Webster Hall with a great beer menu, decent food and works for me as a pre-show meet up.

What say you guys?

was some shakin' and some record playin'

ChiefOKONO
