I  just want the rail for MMJ, so all of you buy VIP and sneak me in somehow.
That's how we're gonna have to play this.
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Well, if you camp at bonnaroo, VIP may have its benefits. I think with driving in daily, the longest I've ever sat in line is 45min. I just don't think the seating is anything to write home about. $100.00 dollars for this festival isn't bad, but if you don't have a chance for the rail, it may be better to invest in the VIP. I'm going to go ahead and get a general admission ticket, and then see what they offer for the roll call upgrades.

Ohhhh right I forgot you lived so close to Roo.   :)  I didn't even know you could drive in daily, how cool!

No problem. ;)

I'm going to have to find out from Tubetop what the High Sierra upgrade cost, and what all the perks were. That was a Roll Call upgrade, and from the sounds of the email, I'm thinking this will be similar. I know she was psyched, and thought it was worth the $. I don't think it was a helluva lot more. I'm pretty sure it was either $79.00 or $89.00 extra. I don't know if that was good for all day, or just the MMJ show, but I'll find out.

If this is going to be anything like that, with an assured entry to a front pit, with easy access in and out, I think I'll give it a go.

It's absurd to have to pay $350 for a 3 day fest to get on the rail. That's my main issue.

it's pretty darn cheap in the festy world
It is? What other festival is 3 days and 350 dollars to get on the rail?
I don't think they are ever priced the way you'd like ie just VIP viewing, but to answer your question Wakarusa VIP is $635 for four day, $505 three day, Mtn jam is $420+ (4 day) just to name a couple.

I understand VIP packages are normally more expensive, but I'm not concerned with other perks, such as an air conditioned lounge. I just want to pay a reasonable price for a ticket and have the ability to be on the rail for MMJ and others.

My point is, I don't know of any other festivals where you have to be VIP to be on the rail. I can buy a regular priced ticket at Bonnaroo and stand wherever I want, for instance.

Sorry, I'll let it go and hope for the best from the Roll Call email. Didn't mean to derail the thread and I'm still pumped about going.

Wakarusa VIP is the same as Forecastle. It's like GA west at MSG, but way more shallow. So there are "two" rails. 100$ for a 3 day Fest is incredibly cheap, so I'm not even worrying about VIP. Plus the Roll Call email....

Also, as we all know, this is ACs first year with their hand in the festival, so who knows what's gonna happen!

What do you think are the chances we get 100 dollar tickets?  The last time I bought Roo tickets in 2010 I bought tickets when they went on sale and the tier 1 was gone instantly and not sure if I got tier 2 or 3.  Now that superfly AC entertainment have their hands in this I think the same thing will happen here.

Would love to see the Roots in this lineup, and it would be great if the boys could pull the Black Keys out of "festival retirement".
Y'all got any disco ball back there?

For what it's worth, I'm going to get a regular festival pass and add-on whatever Roll Call can offer.

For High Sierra, we paid $40 for an all day VIP pass on the day that MMJ played.  That entitled us to: access to the "pit" area in front of the stage, access to slightly cheaper beer, private-ish port-a-lets, and some really tasty ginger candy and drinks.  =)

If I can pay $40-$50 for a similar pass at Forecastle, that will be fine.  There aren't many bands that I want to be up front  for...I'm usually pretty content to hang out by the sound board.  :)

Thanks Nola. That's pretty much what I remember Tubetop saying too. I knew it wasn't a heck of a lot more.

I'm with you. I'd gladly pay that for a similar pass for the Saturday with MMJ. Hang out, and take it easy for most of the day, and get into the VIP area for Jacket Time!

Wow, got a reply from Forecastle much more quickly than I expected.

I had asked if the "pit" in front of the stage was still for VIPs only, and unfortunately, looks like the VIP area in front won't be happening this year...

QuoteThe VIP area is now in the center of the festival and the viewing should be great.
There will still be front of stage/pit viewing

Great news.

Sounds like they are going to do it how 'roo was done last year.

mgriff73

Do you mean the rotating pit?  Roo did that in 2010 and was awesome.  I walked up late for Beastie Boys and Snoop and went straight to the front.  That's about the only thing positive I can say about Roo anymore other than the great times I had with my friends. :'(

Penny Lane

yeah i am kinda bummed to know that Superfly is now involved in this festival..

also bummed that the VIP area has anything to do with the PIT, seems a bit discriminatory to me...(and yes i'm aware that paying into Roll Call gets you better access to tix, somehow is such a small nominal yearly fee that it doesn't seem the same.)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I'm over seeing the BK, bring on The Roots! (and yeah, they're retired from festivals? they're playing every major fest, aren't they? i'm waiting to hear they're headlining Hangout)

Yeah....just wondering about "there will still be front of stage/pit viewing".  Does it say for whom?

Context!  You know I gotta lawyer that stuff, Penny ;)
