Daniel Johnston doesn't seem like a dream... I saw him headline at Starry Nights Music Fest in 2010... A festival with less than 2,000 people.

I saw him play to a huge crowd at Austin City Limits a few years back.  It was pretty painful/hard to watch...what did you think of the show you saw?

Daniel shows are painful/hard to watch.  But if you appreciate him and his music it's still a beautiful thing.

i just think it would be something to see him performing his own songs ...
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

That's true.  IME it's not something that's totally pleasant or even very enjoyable...but that doesn't make it a bad experience.  Just may bring up some complicated emotions - similar feelings seeing Vic Chesnutt, Wesley Willis, Hope Sandoval, heck, even latter day Bob Dylan sometimes.

Okay if it's a game then, I guess my official guesses will be:

1. M Ward
2. VHS or Beta
3. Ben Sollee/Daniel Martin Moore-some mountaintop removal act
4. Fruit Bats
5. The Roots
6. Gary Clark, Jr. (for tbd)
7. Mavis Staples
8. PHJB
9. Foo Fighters (or RHCP)
10. Alabama Shakes

Penny, I think you just won   ;D

Insight from another local:

It won't be Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder--they're still in Europe that weekend.  (So that would also rule out Soundgarden.)  Roger Waters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both play Louisville's arena in June--though it's worth noting that the Chilis' shows in this region leave them darn close to Manchester, TN, right before Bonnaroo, with no dates scheduled for that weekend.  So bet pretty heavily on them being at 'Roo.

Black Keys played Forecastle (as a two-piece) in 2009, so the relationship with the Festival is already there, and their amphitheater show in Louisville last year was well-received.  M. Ward played as She & Him in 2010, plus there's the MoF connection, so he's a good bet.

A lot of the big names will be in Europe for festival season, and I don't know all schedules, but would love to see Foo Fighters again (haven't been to Louisville since 2000), or (dream of dreams) Springsteen (also not in Louisville since 2000, not in Kentucky since 2002).

July 10 is Pearl Jams last show in Europe.

I don't really want to see Red Hot Chilli Peppers without John Fruiscante

looks like pearl jam wraps up on the 10th in Europe - they could make it to Louisville for the 15th if they wanted - probably a long shot but possible

Maybe its the pessimism in me, but I really can't see PJ as a whole committing to Forecastle. Eddie Vedder I think would be more plausible.

I hope Foo isn't gonna be playing. They were my least favorite act of Hangout, by far.
Like others said, it won't be RHCP or Rogers.
Springsteen will be in Europe over the summer.
I really hope it isn't Black Keys. Really hope. Like others have said, headlining at a festival is NOT how I like my Keys. The age of me going to see the keys is over, I'm afraid.

I think the headliners will be more along the lines of Flaming Lips, WSP, MMJ caliber. Not Springsteen, PJ, Roger Waters....

But with AC now in the picture its really all up in the air.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

As much as I'd love it, I'm gonna rule out PJ in my head right now. Considering they sold out a festival in September pretty much on their own, I'm gonna say they are a little bigger than Forecastle can handle at this point.

But then again, this fest DOES have to have two other big names and a solid top ten. I hope we're all in for some sweet surprises.

There defiantly needs to be a forum jam session somewhere.

Are we expecting the other headliners to be MMJ-sized?  Who has headlined this thing in the past (and would that even be a good barometer since AC/Superfly is involved now, maybe it'll be bigger)?

Eddie Vedder is touring solo at that time and is on the west coast.  With that being said he does have three days off during that time.  Widespread has headlined the the last two and the black keys did in 09.  The Flaming Lips closed last time with Smashing Pumpkins and WSP the other two headliners.

oistheone

I would think the other two headliners would be at least MMJ-sized. Then again, I'm basically just looking for reasons to believe that Wilco will be one of the other headliners. Vedder would be too sweet as well. But are those three drawing from very similar fanbases? I'm thinkin' AC might wanna diversify a little, so I'm expecting a jamband in the top five, and probably a rap act in the top ten as well.

ALady

Thanks mgriff!

Would love to see Wilco there, wonder if they would be a headliner?   ???

well since Superfly is involved, i'm expecting another big headliner..something more 'corporate' or 'amenable to the masses' such as Foo Fighters or RHCP (or even BK now)..

edited to add: WILCO would be a dream....

Those seem big   :o

We'll probably get some clues from the Roo lineup, too - don't think they'd book too many of the same acts since the fests are so close together in terms of both timeframe and location.

If only we could communicate our desires to AC.

Actually, if only AC would listen to our desires after we communicated them.

I'm sure 90% of the acts are all locked up now anyway. The Roo lineup is gonna be a big tell, as I'm betting one of the Forecastle headliners will be a top-ten at Roo (c'monnnnnnnnnnnnn Wilco!) and the other one won't be a Roo-er at all.
