Today marks the 6th anniversary of the release of the first compilation of demos, B-sides, and covers from early in the band's existence.

The Darla archives contain many unreleased early My Morning Jacket recordings, the best of which have been compiled for release along side all the hard to find favorites previously available only on singles and compilations.

Thoughts?

I believe some of these tracks may have been ones that appeared on the mysterious 1996 demo tape that surfaced on eBay last year.  Maybe Dylan can confirm?

Also, which of the above tracks did not see the "light of day" at T5?

PS- last Thursday and Friday (Nov. 11 & 12) was the 5th anniversary of the Fillmore shows in Frisco that spawned the Okonokos and Acoustic Chorale DVDs and double-live album.

Chapter 2 came out on the same day!   Every band should do this.

What are the dates on Isobella and When Will They Come? Any idea if recordings of those shows exist?
The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care. - Peter Gibbons

Huh.  My research for the forum calendar had Ch. 2 coming out on Nov. 23, 2004, but the MMJ website says it was on the 15th, as you say, BH.  I used the old MMJ site Nashville to Kentucky for most of the release dates, the dreaded Wikipedia for others.  I should have just used forum members!!

It always floors me when these random songs pop up in old setlists.   I think of Chills as a Z-era B-side, but there it is on a 2002 setlist.   In fact according to the archive, it was played once in 2000 !! :o :o

So it was played once in 2000, once in 2002, and then not again until Oct 2010, when it was played twice.   Amazing!

Just remember, one big holiday' was played back in '99

On another note, where the heck is 'I just wanted to say?!'

BH

Xmas EP!  Originally I thought he played it during the WFPK Christmas session in 2001, but he did not.   So T5 was first and only.

Dave, I'm talking about a live version, duh!!!!!!! ;)

Dave, there must be some sort of glitch, it says you have over eight-thousand posts :-?

Somebody misplaced a decimal point I think.   I should have known you meant live after your "IF" songs post.  Duh, indeed.

Now I can't get that, "Bah, bah......ump bah" from IJWTS out of my head.  Can't wait to go listen to this ep.   If the radio can play friggin xmas songs before thanksgiving, i certainly can!

darkglow

the christmas EP and the live WFPK jim acoustic christmas recording are always huge listens to me around this time of year. but it's always been customary not to break them out until after thanksgiving day.

btw.. i can't believe it's been 6 years since these were released. it seems like yesterday that i got these in the mail from darla records in the recycled paper wrapping!

Chills was originally released in 2001 on the At Dawn Demos bonus disc.  If you don't know that version, find it.  I like it better than the b-side they released later.
