It's so good to hear this! Thanks for the in-depth review, LBSUNFLOWER. They got added to the Bonnaroo set this week and I'm really looking forward to seeing them, actually even more since reading this.

Waddy Peytona

One of the "new" songs was a cover of John Prine's "Quiet Man." They bookended another tune with this, which may have also been a cover. I wasn't familiar with it.

This was my fourth Houndmouth show over the past year. Nice to see them hitting their stride.

Honestly, the "gimmick" is tiresome to me. They're singing like they're Guthrie... over-worked lower class americans, casinos, cigarettes, drugs, johnny-law, etc. They're giving this "cool redneck" persona off in all their lyrics, when the truth is that theyre just some nerds from southern indiana (thats louisville's armpit). they dont have experience in any of the things they sing about, and it makes it entirely unrelatable to me. I like the music fine, and I think I will get over this, but I can't see them making major headway in the future if they make more music past this with the same shit. I realized it in the EP, and am shocked that they continued with it for 8 more songs or whatever

Eric--thought of you when i read this...

Great NYT article:

When a scruffy, ponytailed salesman in his 20s approached, I told him: "I'm going for a Mumford & Sons look. I want to look like I play the banjo."

Sometimes when I get in my zone, you'd think I was stoned, but I never as they say, touched the stuf

Jeff Murray

Anyone else having issues with the mp3 files that you download with the vinyl?  My "non-apple" mp3 player has a hard time starting the album.  I pretty much never have an issue with mp3 tracks, just FLAC files.
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

They are on Conan tonight...just a heads up

Really digging this band thanks to this thread. Gonna try to catch their Bonnaroo performance even though it is during Futurebirds and JD McPherson...sigh

Listened to this album a couple times. I like it well enough, but they just strike me as a poor man's Felice Brothers who I have some trouble buying into...and it all sort of sounds the same.
The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care. - Peter Gibbons

Chicago: FREE XRT Houndmouth show at Cubby Bear on 3/27!!! First come, first serve!!!

P.S. For No One, Otis and Sedona are such goddamn jams...For No One has such an ineffable quality...and Sedona is like such a road trip song...it's ike the Beach Boys met Sonny and Cher on Laugh In

They killed it on Letterman last night.. even while wearing some questionable outfits

Come Closer

Album is decent. I think I'll end up liking their last one a bit more.

Love this record, especially after seeing them do it live.

Saw them 2/20 for the first leg of their current tour at High Noon Saloon in Madison, WI. Super small venue and they rocked it. I think I like their previous album a bit more too Osistheones.
Doesn't matter what you're doin', as long as you're losin' your head

I have only played the new one twice so far but don't think I will end up liking it as much as I did the first. kind of all sounding the same.  :embarrassed:
Still looking forward to seeing them at Forecastle this summer. Hopefully it will grow on me...

BH

I've only heard a couple songs, and I like it.    Reminds me a lot of Dr. Dog though.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

kind of my feeling about this band as a whole :undecided:
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

"Houndmouth has great spirit," says Jim James, who the band considers to be a "big brother" and mentor. "There is something so real there, real to see and feel when you hear it live. You see real people putting art into the world. Real blood, sweat, and tears."

From their fbook:

Important update from Houndmouth:
This is not the easiest news to share, but Katie Toupin is parting ways with Houndmouth. This is an amicable split, and Katie plans to pursue other opportunities.
We (Matt, Shane, and Zak) wish Katie the absolute best in all her future endeavors and want to thank her for the years we spent together as bandmates and, more importantly, friends. When we all first met as teenagers, we never dreamed that music would bring the four of us together and take us as far as it has. It's been a long journey, and the time has come for our paths to split. We encourage everyone reading this to continue to support her.
FROM KATIE: I am incredibly thankful for all of our fans. Your relentless support has meant the world. We have been through so much together as a band, and none of it would have happened without the fans. I want to wish Houndmouth continued success. I would also like to ask the fans to continue to support me, along with the boys, as we go our separate ways.

Going to be hard to recover from this loss. Will be interested to see if they try to keep it together.
