here's how I play it

First, you have to tune your guitar to Em tuning. The song is played capo 1, so you capo the first fret, so that it's open Fm. What I did, however, because of my voice, was to just tune down to Dm, so that I could sing it better.

Em looks like this: EBEGBe

so just take the A and D strings up a step.

the beginning riff is so (and I'm just giving chords because the picking is quite easy to figure out)

000100   000120

002220   002240

004440   004450

005650   005670 (play this chord for a bar, then...)

watchin a stretch of road
000100

miles of light explode
002220

driftin off a thing...
004440

i had never felt before
005650  005670

(repeat for verse)

then the chorus is

people always told me
555655      777877

that bars are dark and lonely
444444        555655

and talk is often cheap and filled with air
555655    777877      000100

(repeat for chorus)

oh, and the ending is just

007890   and    005670

and thats how it is, more or less

that little bit with the bends is just on the top two strings:

e------12--12------------
b--------------12/(14)\12---

so just bend that note on the B string up a step and then back down.

and thats all folks. comment and critiques are welcome.

Explanation of how to read my tabs
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

also, sometimes just for flavor, in the end bit, i'll vary the bass note between the open low F (because of the tuning, so thats the low note) and the fifth fret of the 6th string, keeps it a little livelier if your playin solo.

This tab is great. There were a couple of other Golden tabs in the thread, but this was the most accurate.

primushead

I'm gonna have to agree.  Very good tabs.

Here's my tab of Golden.  It might not be perfect but I think it sounds pretty good.  Give it a try tell me what you think.

First tune the guitar to E minor tuning.  That means EBEGBe
Now Capo first fret.

The beginning riff is like this.  Just work with that. it's easy to figure out the picking.
0       0      0      0
0      2      4      5      7
4      4      4      4      9
4      4      4      4      9
0      0      0
0      0      0

The verse is like this

Watchin a stretch of road      004400

Miles of light explode          002200

004400                                        0799
Driftin off a thing I'd never done

Then the part in between the verse and chorus just alternates from

0799 to 091111

Then the chorus is

556555 or A#
778777
004400
999999
556555
778777
4400   004400          < and here after you go through it 2X it goes straight back into the opening riff and it's an
               easy transition

If you have a second guitar they can play this riff during the part between the verse and chorus

-12-12-9----------------12
------------12—12/14

12/14 is a hammer-on

Also, at the end of the song they play this riff using an acoustic

00-2040-----44-5-7
----------2-0----------2---

Half

at some point in the chorus he goes to the 12th fret
but i done went and plum forgot it

for_you_only

the picking is not easy to figure out  :( help?

-------------------------------------------------------------------
--0--0--2--2--2--2--4--4--4--4--5--5--5--5--7--7--------
---1--1--1--1--2--2--2--2--4--4--4--4--6--6--6--6-------
----0------0------2------2------4-----4------5-----5---------
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

its real easy once you get the hang of it and you might have to improvise a little to get it right since this is just the pick pattern

I found that playing it a whole step down is easier.
It's just G(F) and D9(C9)-- 200210 for the verses and then the chorus is just C(A#)  D(C)  G(F)  Em(Dm).
