Jim performed with Tom Morello last night in LA at the Grammy's Musicares gala honoring this year's person of the year: Bruce Springsteen.  Jim and Morello did The Ghost Of Tom Joad, and I heard they "brought the house down"'!

I posted these pics in another thread but figure they'll be seen by more folks in this section.

Looks like Jim was thrilled and having a blast!

There were a couple up earlier (Tim McGraw/Faith Hill,Mumford and Sons, Juanes) but they've been pulled. The only one still up is this not so hot one of Neil doing BITUSA, and there's still one of Bruce doing Born To Run. Here's the Neil one:

NEIL YOUNG performs BORN IN THE USA at the GRAMMY Musiccare

Edit to say I believe Morello was also onstage for Bruce's WE Take Care Of Our Own, as he's now temporarily part of the E St Band until Steve returns from filming his TV show Lilyhammer. TM will be doing the upcoming Aussie leg of tour.

An excerpt from the LA Times review of the night:

Emmylou Harris drifted through "My Hometown," Springsteen's lyrical glimpse at the power of roots and birthright, gently playing an acoustic guitar while offering the song's bittersweet lines. John Legend turned Springsteen's early 1980s upbeat pop song, "Dancin' in the Dark" into a solo piano ballad; the Boss later said that "it made me sound like Gershwin." Zac Brown and Mavis Staples collaborated for a gospel-filled take on "My City of Ruins."My Morning Jacket's Jim James tore through "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with guitarist Tom Morello. (Find a copy of this performance online; it was the most powerful rendition of the night.)

Nice!  Fixed the boldface, Eric.  I hope this surfaces somewhere... and soon!
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I was there last night.  Jim and Tom Morello was a huge highlight.  The entire night was amazing.

The performance of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with Morello was very true to the current E St. band arrangement.  If you haven't seen that, watch this (all the way through, you won't be disappointed):

Jim played and sang Bruce's part very well.  It was outstanding.

At the end, when Bruce brought up all of the artists for Glory Days, he made a point of saying about Jim, "Get that man a guitar, he looks naked without a guitar!"  Or something like that.  It was cool.

A great, great, great night.

Actually, Bruce said, "Give Jim a guitar.  He looks like a maaaan that should be holding a guitar!"  You can see that (or more likely hear it) here:

What a tool Tim McGraw is. Says he knows the 2nd verse, and is either drunk off his ass, or has no f'n clue what the verse actually is, and looks like an ass. I'll bet Jim knew it, and woulda killed it!

Love the " Jim looks like a man that ought to be holding a guitar" bit, and then asks him if he's got any noise coming out of it yet before he starts.

When I see/hear Jim blow away legends when he's at a benefit or something  reminds me of young eddie vedder when he use to go to birthdays (bob dylan) and other benefits and blow the crowd away. Both legends of our time .

A little official video of Jim James and Tom Morello here:

The Jim/Tom part is from 1:17 to 1:31...14 seconds is better then nothing!

I was just thinking last night about the "legends" of our time that have created a place for themselves in history... Vedder, Thom Yorke, Jack White are the big 3 who are  all obviously there, and Jim and Jeff Tweedy will more than likely be joining them one day. Who else?
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

I agree with those, the only other name I can think of right now is Trey. I'm not at all a Phish or Trey fan but I do respect what they've done and think his name deserves to be mentioned with the others.
