Odds we get a New Year's Show this year?  Or 3 night Portchester run in December again?  I'm worried this Americanarama is all we are going to get now with Jim playing so many fricken shows this year.

Considering the presumption for 2013 was 0 MMJ shows, I don't see how to expect much more. Even if there is a New years Eve show, it could be in Louisville, L.A., Milwaukee, or Mexico City. I guess you are the first poster I have seen that is possibly complaining about Jim's solo shows?

Was there some article or a mention by one of the band members that they had a hold on that arena in Boston for a few New Years Eves because Phish had MSG reserved?  I hope that's true and that a three night "warm up" run precedes it.

Phish has MSG reserved for NYE this year, I believe that's the final year of their contract. I don't think there was ever a mention that MMJ had agannis reserved for multiple years, and honestly I hope they don't...that venue was downright awful on so many levels. I don't see a MMJ NYE show happening this year, but if it does I'd be surprised to see a return to boston. I think the KFC YUM center in Louisville would make the most sense.

Yeah I agree that the venue was absolutely awful. Thank goodness I brought my own whiskey, because trying to get a beer there was awful. Everything about that venue sucked. The show was out of this world amazing though (par for the course with MMJ though). I don't care where it is, I just hope they do it.
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

They will need to test out stuff from the new album they are going to work in this summer/fall, so why not do a NYE show?

Not really complaining about the Jim shows.  I was just hoping to get a real MMJ show and I feel like all his dates along with opening for Bob Dylan probably hindered those possibilities a bit.

If they do another PC run at the end of this year I would be a pig in shit.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Too much of a good thing? Those are 2 philosophies I embrace when forced to deal with things I have no control over. There is some real validity to both of them regarding gaps in touring for MMJ.( I know I will get shit for the second one.)

I would be back there in a second if they made it happen again.

Move over and let me into some of that sh*t.

They should do 3-day runs at Port Chester between x-mas and New Years until the end of time.

I agree completely. Last year was a good year because I did several awesome runs that were spread out, but in 2011 I did so many in a couple months that I was jaded. It makes the "standard" shows a bore when I see them too often
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

There's something to be said for a break. Having a year where I do other things with my extra cash isn't a bad thing, but I would take a holiday trip to Port Chester any year they want to play a run of shows.

I thought maybe a Halloween show at KFC?  Wishful thinking!

The quote came from Jim saying that Phish has MSG booked up for like the next 5 years so they were having to look at different venues up the east coast so their fans in Philly, NYC, and Boston would have sort of a central place to go...no multiple year NYE contract for MMJ...I think we will get something though

midwesterner

Well since they only seem to do a NYE show every 3 to 4 years I would doubt it. But I hope they prove me wrong and I hope it isn't in Boston again. I personally just didn't like the venue at all and it was way too cold to do much in Boston.

I would actually prefer a Jim solo show on NYE because it would probably be in a smaller venue.

Let me chime in on how awful the Boston NYE venue was. Please never play there again. Agannis arena had the slowest beer lines and they would only let you get one beer at a time, so you couldn't take one back for your buddy. Plus, they did a terrible job keeping people from coming into your section whose seats weren't there. Then you had really drunk people who kept crowding up all over you. Might as well have been GA for all the fighting and wresting we had to do to keep our spots.

I'd like to see the Midwest get some love for a new years show. Louisville would be super fun, and it would make sense to test a couple new tunes there.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

e_wind

yes. please no boston or aggannis ever again. NYC is about the only city that i can justify being in for a single jacket show when its that cold. Louisville would be awesome since I live here, but how about something Southern? NOLA would be the bees knees. Or, how about something like Panic en la Playa, and you just play at a resort in the Caribbean for 4 nights.
