They opened with Hell.

Nice. I've got a good friend there who hasn't seen MMJ since the Yum show. I'm sure he's psyched!

Sorry to steal your thunder, Yaczilla. yours looks so much nicer than mine. I'm just enjoying this beautiful afternoon outdoors before school starts back in a couple of weeks.

No sweat.  Sometimes short is sweet.  In two weeks, I'm moving my world to fuckin' Iowa City, quite possible the worst place a MMJ fan could move to... HA!  Then I begin the campaign, for Jim to face his demons, and give the people of Iowa City the show they never got.

Chicago is not far. This came up quickly.

Wow this great, I hope something like this happens in a couple weeks. I hope no one left early and missed it.

WHAT A NIGHT!!! If I could put tonight into words, it would be:

I knew I was in for an awesome night when the boys opened with "I Think I'm Going To Hell". They came out SWINGIN' and it got me MOVIN' -- which made for weird moments when I was rocking as hard as I've EVER rocked and nearly EVERYONE around me was sitting still as a stone. There were pockets of MMJ fans scattered throughout the floor -- easily spotted -- and I wanna say THANK YOU for giving MMJ the energy they needed to know they were appreciated! There were so few fans in the pit that I'm pretty sure each and every person who was rocking on that floor, Jim walked over to you and personally gave you a moment of acknowledgement. I know I got one at least. And so did my girlfriend. We were fucking rocking.

Circuital was done vocals-only by Jim. His acoustic was on the fritz tonight.

Steam Engine was fucking killer. And I'm in love with the new Jim-sax-coda arrangement of Victory Dance. Makes the song new again!

Also, Jim won banter of the night contest in a TKO.

Wilco was fucking awesome. Brought out Feist for two songs, one (I'm prettttty sure) being Suzanne by Leonard Cohen. Also closed with Cinnamon Girl avec MMJ who looked like they were having a BALL -- Carl especially! Great backups and handclaps!

And then Dylan. What can you say? I went in with such low expectations that Dylan would have to  literally be the WORST SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF LIVE MUSIC to let me down. Well not only did he not suck, he was fuckin' cookin' with gas! I feel like an idiot for not being more excited. His band is truly a treat to listen to. The bass grooves were something else. The sound, so fucking crisp. Bob was all smiles all night. I think he knew he fucking slayed.

Jim and Jeff sat in on "Oh, What A Beautiful City", an old folk standard. It was fucking awesome. The whole crowd chanting "Oh What A Beautiful City!" in unison with Bob Dylan, Jim James and Jeff Tweedy. On the same stage for the first time ever. What a beautiful city indeed.

I was dancing my ass off at the front center of the lawn :) At first, not a single person stood. I looked at alienlanes and said, "I just can't sit through this" and got up and danced. Eventually he got up, too. Might have been a leg cramp, tho

At the end of Smoking From Shooting, the last song, they wound back up and it sounded like they were going straight into Run Thru. I got really freaking excited, but then it was just the very last bit kind of drawn out a bit and then it ended. They tinkered for a second and it sounded like they were about to open a new song but they all popped up to the front of the stage and said thank you and good night.

I got the feeling that they lost themselves in the groove, went to start Run Thru and then maybe caught themselves and wrapped it or got a warning from the stage manager that they were out of time and to stop playing. Unless, of course, Smoking now has a false ending that starts back up and is actually the ending of Run Thru.

I was a bit embarrassed that I said Run Thru was starting and then, well, it didn't.

Great show. Wilco was awesome, but MMJ kicked their asses in terms of energy. Even the slower paced tunes were super compelling and danceable whereas a few of the Wilco numbers sounded kind of flat. The sound was awesome on the lawn. My friends in the middle seated section said the sound was a little muddy for them.

Between MMJ and Wilco I added 10 000 steps to my FitBit (my pedometer) and lost pounds and pounds of sweat. I'm still gulping down water trying to replenish.

I can't wait for Thursday when I get to introduce my boys to the band's live show. The seated area at Darien Lake is much smaller than in Toronto so I'll be a lot closer to the stage, thank goodness!
Babe, let's get one thing clear, there's much more stardust when you're near.

I've seen Smokin'>end of Run Thru many times, so what you saw has precedent. I find myself expecting that opening, those long-held guitar notes that is Run Thru, even when listening to the Evil Urges album.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

It was the standard Smokin->end of Run Thru transition, but the boys were indeed hovering around the stage afterwards, looking they had planned to play more. The Omnichord was brought out and it looked like they were about to launch into Touch Me Pt. 2, but I guess their time was up. Probably jammed too hard on Steam Engine earlier!

A great show as always. A bit crappy that Jim's guitar wouldn't work during Circuital, but Bo picked things up nicely there...and they were definitely cut off from playing Touch Me Pt. 2. The sample had started, the omni was out and Jim's flying V was also brought on stage and set down by the kit...oh well. From a show runner's perspective it was definitely the right time to cut them off in order to change over for Wilco who was due on at 7:55....

My wife and I left about half way through Dylan so we missed the bob, jeff and jim moment...them's the breaks with a pup at home.

great night overall. it was my first time seeing Wilco and they were amazing.

So what I wanna know is how this Dylan/Jeff/Jim sit-in went down. Was last night the first time Jim has even met Dylan? Dylan was positively beaming after the song, and heartily embraced both Jim and Jeff with powerful hugs, saying "great job guys, great job!"

Man, what an awesome night.

Jaimoe

The Wilco/MMJ finale was awesome, an ode to Canada with "Cinnamon Girl"! Feist and MMJ did indeed do another Canadian classic, Cohen's "Suzanne".
