I hate how I have to purchase the entire album and can't purchase just the song. Grrr...

At least it's going to a good cause.

I remember back in 2006 at northwestern U when MMJ played a extended version of Don Dante that was basically a jam on fela kuti's "trouble sleep yang wake AM"

a bit of insight into the lyrics.....
Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am: Broken English translation of 'Trouble Sleep Yanga Am' literally means: 'toying with a loaded gun' or 'playing with fire'. It is a song talking about the limit to human endurance. Mr. Trouble is lying quietly and Mr. Provocation (yanga) goes to play around him. What else could he be looking for except palaver. A good example of such trouble-shooting is that of a man who has just got out of prison and goes about desperately looking for work in order to avoid what led him to jail. While at it, a police man stops and charges the man for wandering. Fela asks what could the police man be looking for, but trouble. It is like when a cat is asleep and a rat goes to bite its tail. Or a tenant who has just lost his job, sitting quietly thinking of where his next meal will come from. His landlord comes knocking, demanding his rent. Of cause he will get trouble bigger than the rent he came to collect. Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am simply means there is a limit to any human endurance.

- Mabinuori Kayode Idowu

Wow, thanks for posting that. SO MUCH in there it gives the tune added depth. Love it.

That Fallon video is fantastic.  Definitely jealous of all of you that made it to Times Square just for this performance.

I inexplicably JUST got around to watching the Fallon performance.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Now THAT'S what they call a smokin' cut! One of the band's deepest grooves ever. And I love me a good groove.

6 - My Morning Jacket - Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am

Sorry, I also meant in Mexico. I wanted to hear Ready to be Called On and Trouble Sleep last year at OBH.  I have Fela's album and this album and I absolutely love the original song and MMJ's version is fantastic.  I think I listened to it for a week straight on repeat when it first came out.  But thank you very much!

I think "Trouble sleep Yanga wake am" would go seamlessly into Dondonte or vice versa.
Dondonte >Trouble sleep> Dondonte would make for a massive 30-40 min face melt!

Just one guys opinion
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do, sometimes won't know how to take him

and every since I have always been forced to listen to that audience recording that has a lot of annoying talking kids.. will be cool to have this to listen to instead!

Well shit, Crispy guess I'm as dumb as I thought I was (and missed that post) or I actually have a relevant thought occasionally  :undecided:. The ppl at that show had no clue. They're thinking it's just some weird Dondonte intro or, what it sounds like from the recording, just not paying attention at all. The boys are straight up playing "Trouble sleep" and singing "Dondonte" over it for the first two verses. Then Patrick changes up his drum pattern and BLAM they're playin straight "Dondonte". Pretty fuckin cool...

You bet! I remember hearing the recording back then and thinking, "gee, that jam sounds familiar..." I was also one of those that didn't have a clue!
