Two Bright Eyes Albums Coming
Oct 21, 2004

Conor Oberst will simeltaneously release a pair of Bright Eyes albums next year.

Indie rock's poet laureate will drop two albums from Saddle Creek Records Jan. 25. One, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning features acoustic numbers, while its companion, Digital Ash in a Digital Urn takes on more rock songwriting.

Oberst gets by with a little help from his big-name friends on the records. I'm Wide Awake boasts guest appearances by Emmylou Harris and My Morning Jacket's Jim James, while Digital Ash taps The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' guitarist Nick Zinner for the work.

Oberst returned home to Nebraska from his new digs in Manhattan to record with longtime producer Mike Mogis at Presto! Studios in Lincoln, Neb. As with all the other Bright Eyes releases, a slew of guests make an appearance in addition to the big names mentioned above: Jesse Harris, Jason Boesel of Rilo Kiley, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mike Mogis, Nick White of Tilly And The Wall, Matt Maginn of Cursive, Clay Leverett and Andy LeMaster of Now It¹s Overhead, former The Good Life member Jiha Lee, Maria Taylor of Azure Ray, Clark Beachle of The Faint, Alex McMannus of The Bruces, Jake Bellows of Neva Dinova and Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service all show up on the records.

That's so cool! I really loved 'Lifted' when it came out, I don't play it very often anymore, but I still appreciate his music. I'm really anxious to hear how the two of them mix together, 'cause one should say they have very different voices...
I'm ready when you are

gotta love the collaborative spirit happening in the indie/folk/alt country scene right now.  I know Oberst has a big following in the college circles and this will allow Jim to be more exposed to them.  I remember the Pearl St show hearing many of the local students talking to Jim like they had never heard of him before.  Maybe college radio will insert MMJ into their playlists more  ;)
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.
