Hey guys, I'm looking for a place to go for a couple days post OBH. I've seen a couple of suggestions to go somewhere besides the Hard Rock. I figured I might not be the only person thinking this. All suggestions are welcome!

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. We went to Playa Del Carmen last year for the day, and considered staying there afterwards this time. I am pretty sure we are going to do a few nights in Tulum though, since it seems a bit less touristy. Cozumel, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum all are close enough.

We've been looking in Tulum. With the smattering of places to stay, we just don't know where to start.

A lot of the hotels in Tulum are rustic cabanas on the beach. That's what we were looking for last year. We went to the Nueva Vida de Ramiro and loved it. From our experience, the Tripadvisor page for Tulum was pretty accurate. If you go definitely try to find time to eat at the Hartwood, some of the best food I've ever eaten.

How does one get from the hard rock to tulum and then airport?
We are considerring coming in night before but with four of us, it'll be an ectra $1200.   We could get a nice room up in cancun for $200.
Wondering how to get from there to hard rock...

We used a company called USA Transfers/Entertainment Plus. They offer private cars and will do airport pickup and hotel transfers. Their rates are similar to the Cloud 9 shuttle. Tulum is as far south as they go and is a bit spendier. It was worth it for the convenience.

Puerto Morello is the Rivera's best kept secret from what I'm reading. Just between Cancun and Playa Del..

The bus system in the area is the way to go, super easy, cheap, nice comfy air conditioned buses. Would advise against renting a car.

Tulum is awesome. Whatever you do, don't stay any extra nights in Cancun, it's like Vegas in the tropics.

I think 3 of us are flying in Friday night because I don't want to land at 4 PM on Saturday and try and make the show.  4th person is flying in Saturday before noon from FL.
We will get a hotel in Cancun for the night and then head back to airport and all get on the Cloud 9 Hard Rock bus.

Does that sound stupid or like a good plan?  I've never been down there before.

We went in a night early last year and stayed at the Hard Rock and plan on doing the same, the time savings for not having to F around with the lines or unpacking or anything far surpasses the added expense in my book for the same reason u are thinking. We didnt stay anywhere else last year, but are planning some post MMJ time in Tulum.

I don't see the need to pay $600 for one night for myself....if the woman wwould be there with me, I would, but she is not flying in until the next day...

Def weigh the options. We usually end up renting a car because when you're jumping from resort to resort and you need to get to and from the airport plus you want to consider a little sight-seeing it can end up more cost effective to rent a cheap car.

Cancun itself feels like Las Vegas. Everything's imported and doesn't feel mexican at all. Do up Playa del Carmen instead. PDC still has the local charm and is a lot less Americanized than Cancun
