Multiple nights in one town

Does anyone have a rhyme or reason why they play multiple nights in some towns and not others? I'm jealous, mainly.

Vibrations

They like a particular venue/city. There's demand for tix over multiple nights. Less travel between shows.

I think with some cities having multiple nights has a lot to do with promotional duties and just having some down time in a place where you can do something between shows.  Life on the road has to have some downsides, and being in a big city for a couple of days, probably getting a hotel room for a couple nights might be a little like being home for them.
Cuz it's been so long since someone shattered me.

It also saves an enormous amount of money for all involved. Labor costs alone - 3 shows for the price of one. That's a big deal in a union city like Chicago.

I give a lot of credit to their tour manager, who is a phish/dead/jam guy.   It is one of several things really pushing them to open their catalog, diversify their setlists, and improvise.  And it's fucking awesome.  There's no way I'd fly to Milwaukee from Philly for a one-off show - but for 2 nights with no repeats over a weekend, I can't effing wait to get on that plane next weekend.

Yeah I would think it's by design. Definitely something the band wants to do more often and that the fans love. Their catalog is massive now so you need 2 shows to hear a lot of different stuff and rarer songs. And the newfound jamming has been pretty amazing. Gets me even more excited to see multiple shows.

Here's to 3 more shows soon at the Cap!

Absolutely!  And between xmas and nye again would be perfect.

If they ever venture into more than 3 shows in one venue territory, I think we'd be looking at a T5 sequel...which they have said they wanted to do again in the future. Please be Red Rocks 2016!

Jim says here that multi nighters is nice not having to bounce around each night. Having family come out and doing the location specific thing.

Doesn't matter what you're doin', as long as you're losin' your head
