I hope it's not the Masonic... despite the renovations and how beautiful parts of that venue are, it SUCKS. Extremely long bar lines (only 2 bars in the whole place), bathrooms buried deep in the basement, security busting people for lighting up (during a Ryan Adams show!). Bill Graham is honestly more convenient and user-friendly IMO. Fox would be the best.

I assume there is a strict no smoking inside the venue? Being that it's California and all I wouldn't think that would be an issue at all. I wouldn't know wayyy over here in Florida.

I've heard a confirmation from reliable peeps that it's at the Masonic.
Well shit... I wish artists and their managements knew the particulars of these venues sometimes, sort of doubt they'd bother booking them. The Warfield, Bill Graham, the Fox... all better venues that are sizes that MMJ could work around.

Sorry to bitch but MMJ is the only band at this point in my life that could get me to the Masonic. Bring a flask if you want more than one or two drinks at this venue!

I enjoyed the hell out of that recent Ryan Adams show at the Masonic, though you're right about getting drinks, and that bathroom run sucks. However, the stepped layout really helps getting out and back in if you have to. I'm just fine being down front even if I don't have anything to drink, but I think I'll bring that flask.

All true. Was still an amazing night, so I imagine MMJ will make for the same.

Another weird thing about the Masonic from the two recent shows I saw there, was if you left the lower floor area (the pit) to go to the bathroom or whatever, they wouldn't let you back on to the floor if they deemed it at "capacity." Didn't make a difference that I insisted I had just left from there and that friends/girlfriend/pregnant wife whatever was down there waiting for me, you were shit out of luck unless you snuck pass the security guard when a deluge of people were exiting.

Are there rails at the front edge of each tier on the GA floor like at the Wiltern in LA?

I thought the renovations at the Masonic made it sound pretty damn good on paper, so I'm a little disappointed in these eye/ear witness reports from the trenches.

The Fillmore is a little slice of immunity from the smoking laws in California, as long as its weed being smoked!   At least it was in 2008-2010 at the Black Crowes' December runs and for as long as I can remember back to the 80s.  Drenched in history, its one of my fave venues in the world.

But I'll take a multi-night run indoors at a medium sized venue in SF any time.  So glad its not at the Bill Graham Civic, I hate that place.

They tried that shit on me at the Fonda in Los Angeles at the Tom Petty shows last year.  I walked to the front of the line and just told them I was going thru and kept walking without looking back. No one tried to stop me.  We didn't wait for hours before the show standing up so that I could listen to part of the show from the lobby while LD stood alone inside.  Fuck that shit! I didn't try to go to the bathroom again after that, though.

I'll bring my flask too, Crispy.  Gotta have a mid-show drink!

Don't get me wrong, we still had a blast at those Masonic shows (M Mouse and Ryan Adams), but aside from making the floor GA/not seated, the renovations really are mostly all cosmetic. Bill Graham is a dump but I honestly have had less hassles there than at the Masonic. I thought MMJ there in 2011 was fine.
