I caught Thin Line on Fri night and Lowdown and Steam Engine into The Bear on Sat.  The latter is a commitment at 17:36 but you'll be glad you watched til the second half.

APR and magh33ta are featured here and there as they sat in front of us both nights.

Your videos are as great as ever.  Awesome pictures and sound.  I hope your shoulder healed from filming that.  Mine is still bruised from you punching me during The Way That He Sings.

What an amazing weekend!  I'm not the biggest fan of Dancefloors, but that version on night two was off the charts.  And night one Phone Went West was particularly amazing.

Ha Ha!  Yeah, Northern Neighbor owes you a beer or something.  He should have been in Minneapolis to take the pounding during TWTHS but since he wasn't you suffered instead.

Well, he slags off Dondate, and Phone but praised HOTBM, so that should tell everyone all we need to know about this guy.

"Where's Jim going?"

I can't believe this review was ever published. I was at this show and it was honestly one of my top 3 MMJ shows all time. The set list crushed. How can anyone, even someone not a superfan, be bored with War Begun -> IWSYS? Are you kidding me?

And "the dullest new songs were played on Friday"? What? Compound Fracture, Believe,  and Spring are certainly not "dull".

I mean, I get that not everyone is as fanatic as I am about this band, but I thought the show was an amazing balance of deep cuts and rockers. My son went to the Saturday show and told me that Friday was way better.

The worst lines:

  • "Compound Fractures" (sic) came off like a pleasantly breezy Supertramp melodic haze. (Supertramp?)
  • The CSN&Y-like, falsetto-tinged "Like a River" (CSN&Y?)
  • weirdly disco-ized, sax-sexy "First Light." (disco?)
  • tested fans' faithfulness with a series of lengthy, slow-building jammers (I highly doubt any "fan" was disappointed with any of these songs)

Wife and I got home and both ranted and raved about this A-hole all night....

Once my subscriptions up no more Star Trib for me, I refuse to support that crap and moreover am embarrassed to be associated as a Minnesotan with him. The review was so condescending and such crap I still cant figure out where he was coming from, the bias wasnt even veiled....

Bottom line the shows rocked, the War into IWSYS had my jaw hanging....

On a related note, we were 2nd row Carl side right in front of the speakers off to the side and I have two thoughts;

Carl is on fire these days....dude was rocking his ass off both nights, anyone see his recovery from the near fall on Sat? he was having wayyyy to much fun !!

And being in 2nd row off to the side I am happy to report any concerns about Tommy needing more volume can now be put to rest, my ears are still ringing.

When the new album came out, the critics that seemed to rate it lower were the ones waiting for more HOTBM, First Light, and I'm Amazed type of songs.

And some people want this band to get bigger....if you want more people talking during the one or two acoustic treats we get every night, and more people sitting until they get Off The Record, then by all means cross your fingers for that but I for one hope the next album is far far from accessible to weed out some of the BS.

The near fall and recovery is at about 3:03 in this video, but really everyone should just watch the whole thing as Dancefloors was just off the charts.

I caught the guitar pick you can see Carl toss at one point in this video.

For those who were there, what was Patrick referring to with this tweet? Strict venue security or something?
QuoteMinneapolis. You're seated on a weekend with no alcohol. This won't happen again. I look forward to going the distance with you tomorrow...

You could buy alcohol at the venue, but could not bring it into the theater. Was kind of a bummer.

I would echo that there were a lot of people being lame in their seats. I was in President's circle East and was told by people sitting around me to sit down, my dancing was blocking their view. Even had the usher tell me to chill out. Sorry, nothing's going to keep me down at a MMJ show...

e-stone

these reviews are killing me.  still have to wait til August 14 for a one night stand at Red Rocks

can we PLEASE get some official LiveDownloads asap!?!?!?

purplebeeve

Friday was top 3 show for me.  Question for everyone referring to the lame Star Tribune Review, what Supertramp song sounds like Compound Fracture?  I maybe need to revisit their catalog.

dondante24

I've been meaning to post a review but haven't gotten around to it. Also having trouble being able to wrap my head around how incredible this two night stand was. For me N1 was fantastic but N2 was one of the best fucking concerts I've ever attended. It didn't hurt that we were 3rd row center for both nights! Also have to throw out a shout to the crowd around me, everyone was super cool and chill, always makes the experience better.

Highlights for me:
N1
Wordless Chorus- One of my favorites and one of MMJ's most unique songs, love how Yim goes around giving finger to finger touches to folks in the crowd.
War Begun - Wasn't expecting this one, amazing jam
I Will Sing You Songs - Just beautiful, would take this tune at every show
Dondante - First time seeing, so powerful, I was in a trance the whole time.
Phone Went West - Great jam to end set, the whole crowd was singing the last few lines over and over with Jim, "Tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm right, tell me there's nobody else in the world," goosebump moment
Spring - This wasn't really a favorite off the album but amazing live, especially the outro,
Mahgeetah - Great encore closer for N1, rocked it

N2:
Circuital opener, my wife's favorite song and a great way to start a show
Evil Urges - been really digging this song lately and didn't expect it
Touch Me Part 1 - again, love this tune and didn't expect it, was partly bummed at first because I thought it meant they wouldn't play Touch Me Part 2, which is a Top 5 song for me
Gideon - First time seeing this live and just mesmerizing
Steam Engine into The Bear - Can't even describe how awesome this sequence was, one of my top concert moments ever.
Waterfall & Tropics - My favorite two songs off the new album and they didn't disappoint
Touch me Part 2 - Didn't think we'd get it after Touch Me Part 1, I've never danced so hard in my life.
One Big Holiday - Probably my favorite MMJ song and first time seeing it, what a way to end the 2 night stand!

Thanks for the taper from night 1. Got a chance to listen to it on my return flight today. The lukewarm review in the thread above is so far off base it is amazing... they sounded amazing that night and put together one of my fave set lists.
