Very cool, glad you had a nice set list! Very cool meeting Tom and Bo. A E I O U, I gotta hear that live again!

Wow....ears are deadened by the swift brutality of the Jacket. Holy shit...Ok, I begin with saying that I couldnt have had a more enjoyable more fun time with my girlfriend, my one and only Chelsea  things hadnt always been so good in our relationship but lately things have been just incredible, just totally dialed in to WHY we've been together for 5 years now and seeing bands like this, especially THIS ONE BAND, is one of those reasons. We arrived and went to go grab something quick at the food court, and as we're leaving we run into Tom getting Panda Express!!! I said Hey Tom! and he smiled back at first and then looked a bit closer and smiled a huge smile and chuckled and said Hey man, whats up? And I didnt wanna bother him so I said Have a great show bro! We know you guys will its the Jacket! and he laughed nervously but genuinely and waved, seeming like he wanted to talk actually, and I was shocked but still stuck with the not being a dick code and didnt wanna invade his privacy and misread a cue. But just seeing Tom in the flesh, a member of my favorite band ever, was insane! Having him happy to see you as a fan and seeming to engage, was even better

Into the venue and to the bar and I can see the fedora and the hair to the neck, near mullety hair, and I knew it was Bo. I go "Bo!" and he turns slowly not knowing what to think and then smiles when he sees my cheesy smile and I just say "Have an awesome show Dood!" and he nods to me and smiles, flashes a peace sign and says "Hey man thanks for coming!" So simple...yet so much meaning to me.

We get to our place in GA and crawl through to Jim's side and about 6 "rows" back. Strand Of Oaks really sounded interesting, but it also made me realize just how many artists have mined the original sound of MMJ (Band of Horses, Dr.Dog, etc).

They came out after what seemed like forever and the place went nuts , and it was the 2012 Intro that theyve NOT DONE in a while i believe at least that ive heard and I kept requesting the 2012 intro on so many tweets (coincidence??) anyway, they came out and blasted into the tightest crispest Believe Ive ever heard just beating the shit out of it, the lights swirling around. The transition into Infancy was awesome but i dont feel like its a good second song in the setlist but was glad to hear it and LOVE THAT SONG! Then straight into one of my requests, and one id wanted to hear for SOOOO LONG, IT BEATS 4 U, a song that hadnt been played in 2012 when i saw them! I was ecstatic! The solo went on for a full minute, Jim pointing at Carl before the solo and J, C and T all headbanging together as the solo raged, the band in full throttle.

From what Id seen on so many different shows, is the band not interacting too much with each other on stage, people saying Jims been weird and cold etc, well guess what? Jim was smiling ear to ear and the band were making funny faces at each other throughout and (my favorite) the guitar acrobatics with Jim and Carl and sometimes Tom were on display in all their cliche parodying glory, complete with Tom putting the end of his bass in his crotch and pointing the neck towards the sky and leaning back during the bass drop of Wordless! Wonderful Man was a neat surprise, one Id requested as well! That song's breakdown is soooooo impossibly heavy...like holy shit. Id always wanted to see this Who-like ditty ever since OKONOKOS. There WAS an OKONOKOS vibe to proceedings in song selection as well, with remnants of its vibe with Beats Wordless WonderfulMan Dondante IWillSingU Record OBH played.

State of The Art was another request of mine! I feel dumb now because I prbably cheated myself out of another MMJ classic, but I requested it and it was FUCKING AWESOME....Just mayhem! Especially the "power is goin out" parts with the lights totally dying and then BAM! It whipped the crowd into a fuckin frenzy. I noticed the crowd got lost in the same old hipster bullshit of looking at each other and wondering if clapping to the drums at the beginning of Circuital is weird or not, but they DID get going (even if it took me wailing my ass off until my throat was dead).

My FIRST Dondante was NUTS!!! I might be wrong, but it seemed like a good 17 minutes! It was impossibly heavy and intense and the guitar solos were shared between J and C  and were really Sabbath sounding!! They were thicker than fuck! And Jim went to the octave pedal and the shit got very Floydish with a Metallica blast beat that started slow and ended in a thrashy undercurrent of Patrick's Bonhamesque wailings.

Thin Line was an interesting addition and as much as I pined for more older stuff It delivered on so many satisfying levels! It totally makes me think of California imagery, my spiritual home and also where the LP was recorded. Jim was sounding like Jerry Garcia during the solo just soloing not too far from us just being a total badass and smiling at our side of the crowd as we did the solo fingers in the air and shouted to him "Jimbo!" "Go Jimmy Go!" and I yelled "Jimmy B. Goode!" Even my girlfriend shook her head at how corny mine was.

Im Amazed got the crowd going nuts but beyond that and the fact that its an amazing classic, now standard, Id already seen it live and it was awesome and I wanted something else. Too run of the mill song choice, but the performance was anything but! The guys were doing it perfect!

The next two, back to back, were fucking insane, Spring began with Jim getting the crowd to OOOOO with him and a few wild freaks among us did like me, but not everyone and he didnt care. The song swung like a pendulum of brooding Bachisms, and those guitars thumping the chord over and over in the verses, the flashes of clavinet...so surreal on the solos with those lights. Tropics came straight after and that song just destroys me. Patrick standing up with those mallets or whatever and looking like some Asian gong master in that deep blue light, Carl and Jim standing together in unison pull offs. The solo was a leaning towers of Jesus! Jim was just going nuts on his ES-335 black one i think.

Next one just blew my mind. My #1 request, I Will Sing You Songs!!!!
It totally took my brain back to highschool driving around high to Okonokos and this song always showing me the way. It was what made MMJ magical to me in the first place, and I'd always longed to hear it live. Tonight was the night. I got video of Jim stalking the stage laughing with someone in the crowd and playing the expansive weird riff and they played the full length version 10+ minutes! It was just more than I could ask for it was crazy, and they used it to end the main set weirdly enough! They walked off and came back with the crowd loudly beckoning them.

They came back onstage laughing, saluting and Jim doing one of the many "choreographed" moves with his duster that he'd done all night. Jim was doing these little things all night that were just hilarious with his hands and his moves, I really can't explain it! Anyway they came back on and I'm thinking we'll get a few surprises , then the standards...but we get the standards. And the standards were fucking sick! Victory Dance was evil and narcotically sexy, even better than the first time i saw it in 2012. Compound Fracture was so groovy! That stomp with they bass keys plowing like a cement mixer with the drums and Tom's thunderous bass, just stomping and grinding, creating this perfect plateau for Carl and Jim to sing their Gibson songbirds on
Off The Record was long! Like 10 minutes because the first 2 minutes was a very very long opening intro with Carl and Jim scatting on the guitars as Patrick had to go to the bathroom or somewhere? He came back after leaving at the beginning of  the intro and his hair was up and he undid something and his hair fell back down to his shoulders. No clue what that was about haha but the guys laughed and looked at Patrick and the crowd saluted Patrick's reemergence and he counted in and slapped a thick ass beat back into Off The Record. Lots of weed and feelgood vibes from the crowd and band on this one, like I'm Amazed Wordless and Dondante as well.

Touch Me Pt. II was interesting, it was pretty much the Red Rocks 2015 version which was awesome cause Id seen the 2012 version and it was interesting to see the song's evolution in the flesh and that jam is so tasty those licks on Jim's Flying V!!!

And Finally, and I knew it, OBH was next, an 8 minute chaotic cure, the crowd going absolutely bananas to end the show on a huge high! Everyone, however timid, were going nuts, even this 50 year old Mormon woman who'd most likely never danced in her entire life was shaking her bony ass to the point she nearly knocked my girlfriend over, and never noticed even after I barely caught my girlfriend (not as dramatic as it sounds) hahah. There was a weird mix of people there, lots of indie hipster 20 year olds and teens and then a cackle of 30-40 year olds, a peppering of 50-60s and randomly a few little kids with parents. Very cool to see that going down, even though the crowd wasnt as big as id have liked, there wasnt as few as feared before. The place had filled nicely although maybe only 3/4 if that full.

All I know is we had one hell of a fucking 2nd show and I wanna thank everyone for being so chill and cool. My favorite moments were Beats 4 U, WonderfulMan, State Of The Art, Dondante, Spring / Tropics twofer, IWILLMOTHAFUCKINSINGYOU!!!, Compound and OBH...of course.

Good god....show 3,,,, i need you....I need to go to NYC.... :drum:

I had to read between the lines, but that's the impression I get.  Seriously though, I'm glad it was so awesome Lonndown and thanks for the reporting.  I'm sure your third show will be amazing whenever and wherever that occurs.....hopefully soon for you.

It was a great show. I walked into that sterile cement box and had to have a beer in a beer garden and lowered my expectations. It ended up being a fantastic show. Seeing State of the Art for the first time was amazing and a 17-min Dondante was killer.

Can't wait for tomorrow night!

Lonndown27

I know Stillwater it was at first very underwhelming and scary...I really was expecting the band to be disappointed and miffed but as ALWAYS utterly professional and ruthless in the delivery.

I think its a perfect second show for me to have seen: Wonderfulman Beats Dondante and I Will Sing You Songs and State of the Art were all songs id never seen live and 7 Waterfall songs.  Could have used some Dancefloors They Ran and O Is The One but its allllll good
