I think the Steam>OMR>Steam is still a work in progress that will get better and better.

Maybe, but being there, it totally took the air out of the "room".  You build to this massive crescendo and then switch gears to a totally different feel.  It was really disappointing for me - BUT that said, still in the top three of MMJ shows that I've seen.  Great show, great sound, great crowd, great venue, etc.

Lonndown27

I could feel the annoyance of the fans cause that was a beautiful Steam . Regardless I loved what they did experimentally

Edit: soonish

I will bet money that, that stream will be edited and put out as a(Okonokos II) Type video.

The bet- $1 American dollar toward the puchse of aforementioned Video :)

Looks like TourGigs sold BluRays of past streamed concerts. I'd pay for this one if it was released for sure.

Yep, and you could tell by all the camera angles and the intro. It's gonna be like the new OKONOKOS. The stream was GREAT and with all those angles, I bet they do a little editing. Like showing more of Carl playing the guitar during some of his solos instead of close ups of Jim's face during said solos. However they did NAIL Carl's banshee like howl of "SETTING SUN"during that massive Victory Dance! There's A LOT of great shots we didn't get to see.
I can't wait. And BLUERAY...fahgetaboutit! Gonna be great

Coming to a BLUERAY near you. While there at it please put out Okonokos on blueray.
Please & Thank you!

there were def some solid overhead band shots and gear shots too. carls board is massive!

can they edit some of the front row crowd

did i say that out loud!

i wonder what they will do will Jims impromptu attempt to connect with the aliens in the dark silence of RR. i dug it just fine personally.

Well, I bought the stream here in Uganda during "Happy Night" (only 2500 shillings after midnight until 6 a.m .$0.66 US plus the $12.99 US) and unfortunately it sucks. 4 seconds of video, 40 seconds of buffering.  I am using my smart phone as a hot spot. I just moved here (Bugeri) yesterday but I'm pretty sure there are no strong wi-fi spots. My office seems a little better but its 1/2 mile away. At 1 a.m it's pitch black out there. No street lights.  First world problems so I can't really bitch.

The little bits I saw looked awesome though. Great camera work. Really made me miss my Red Rocks greatest venue in the world. MMJ gets so jacked up there. I'll ask family for the hoped for DVD in the next care package. Many thanks to Lonndown27 and Chew Bacca for the MMJ in this care package.

Yeah, they will definitely edit the final differently.  With so many camera angles it must have been hard to edit in real time but when they get to do a final cut they can be more thoughtful about all the details.  They had some nice angles from above and behind the stage. Trust me, I loved the camera work on this livestream but where was Tommy at the beginning of OBH dropping those notes of his.  Really?!?  They need to get that in the final cut.

I'm still listening/watching the recycled stream right now and it's been on for over 24 hrs straight in my family room.  It's made the whole day feel like a party as family visited, we did chores, we ate, we drank, we whatever and had it blasting in the background or we sat down and watched.  I hope they never turn it off.

Let me start off by saying this show was amazing and it's going into the 26th hour of continuous play at my place.

I don't usually weigh into these controversies but..... Steam Engine is meant to be stretched and experimented with but not cut in half

I applaud MMJ for trying this and other things but Steam Engine Interruptus should be shelved.  As a scientist, I know that not all experiments work out but that should not stop you from continuing to experiment

Sheets Of Clay

I'm not saying it won't be put out on blu-ray, I have no idea, it could come out tomorrow. Just remember that after the Louisville Unstaged show in 2011 we were all so sure it was gonna be "Okonokos 2" and it never happened. And it had better camerawork and lighting than the show last night by a mile.

tippitoes22

At first listen/view I would have DISAGREED. One of my all time favs blended into one of my newer favs off the Waterfall.(Memories Re'mang was an instant classic for me the first time I heard it at OBH II), but after a second listen, I would AGREE. I'm all for them experimenting with everything musically. Stretching song, improv, playin with diff lyrics, massive 70's style guitar jams, etc.(Their free flying, gettin lost in their own songs while maintaing the base song is one of the reasons I like MMJ SO MUCH!) But while I would have to say the Steam engine cut >into Memories Re'mang was seamless, it threw me off. Something akin to shoving me outta a groove. So hopefully that was an experiment that will be shelved as just that, an experiment. I like my "Steam Engines" STEAMY :) !!!

But on the subjects of experiments that End of Laylow outta DONDONTE was fuckin GREAT.
It was like an End of Run Thru.  FUCKIN GREAT!!! Anyway I hope they keep pushing the envelope, and experimenting. Not everything's gonna be a home run, but They, you, us will never know if they don't try

Just one guys opinion

Plus, I was just telling my wife that Danny Clinch might not be in any hurry to release it (if he has any say-so over its release). He still hasn't released that documentary he made about the Preservation Hall Jazz Band that Jim and the boys are featured in (even after saying on the Interweb that it will be coming out soon...soon...soon...when is soon...?).

Here's the full UNSTAGED show that I downloaded and saved in the days that followed the actual live webcast.

Danny Clinch also filmed and followed Ryan Adams during the whole year of 2005 and a piece of the documentary was released on the September Bonus DVD that was very limited edition with Ryan's album Jacksonville City Nights, and we have never seen anything more from it...and it looked like an award winning documentary if I've ever seen one...the footage was stunning.. maybe he has problems with artists backing out of projects once they're finished and basically blocking him from releasing them. I'm not sure, maybe he can't complete things.

BUT NO WAY can you guys say the camera work for Unstaged was better than last night, are you serious about that???? Danny Clinch made the band look like THE greatest rock and roll band in the world, which they are, and did it like it was a fucking movie made by Scorsese about MMJ...it was insanity how intimate the shots were. The angles where it was creeping from one side of the stage to the other or from behind Bo, to Patrick, then to Carl's shadow on the end ALL IN ONE CONTINUOUS SHOT?

How can Unstaged be better? I loved Unstaged, everyone does and for all the right reasons, but....what Danny did last night just absolutely blew my mind..its how I've always wanted to film the band in my head (or like Okonokos) and he seemed to combine Okonokos with the Red Rocks 2012 camera angles enhanced.

jimsflyingv

I believe to have read an interview of Jim a few months ago stating that he is planning a "Okonokos II" - hopefully this is it. I am really looking forward to a new concert release from my favorite band !!!

Dondantesinferno

So I burned the streaming show from Red Rocks last night. How would I go about sharing that here and more importantly, is it legal? I mean I am not selling it. So is kinda like showing people pictures of an amusement park I paid to visit? Bad analogy but  not wanting to cause myself any trouble.....

Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

parkervb

my ONLY complaint...

WHY WAS THE CAMERA NOT ON PAT DURING CLOCK ARMS!!

Don't you ever turn it off

beardedwonder

Mr White. U Sir know how to party. Many thanks for those vids. Bravo.

YEESSSS!!!
No Patrick during Toms bass line in RUN THRU was a HUGE cameara angle mistake. It's kinda goofy, like he's the head cheerleader :) BUT..You can't have RUN THRU without him in the shot. Shoulda been him and Tom in the same shot for that part.
