Iriquois Ampitheater: What's the line situation like?

I've never been to this venue so i have some questions as it pertains to waiting for the doors to open which i'm assuming many of us will be doing:

1.  Is this at all like Red Rocks?  What I mean by that is is there any possibility we can tailgate (and have some drinks) close to our vehicles and still hold a spot in line?  For that matter, is tailgating permitted in any capacity?

2.  If that's not possible, is it permissible at this venue to have some drinks while in the line to get in?

check their website and see if there are rules about open container. it's probably not allowed in the parking lot.
I've been there several times but always just got there right before the show and walked right in. We waited in a long line for Ryan Adams last year bc it wasn't assigned seating, so I imagine for these 2 MMJ shows the line will be crazy long as well. There's also a parking lot on one side and a park all around the amphitheater so there's plenty of places to hang out outside before the show. I don't see how you'd drink by your car while waiting in line though...

also says Doors open at 6:30.
I'm sure people will get there in the afternoon to be the first in line.

I will be coming after work and will take what I can get for seats. It's small enough that there really aren't any bad seats. Unless it's raining! The back half is not covered.

I've seen, and participated in, tailgating in the parking lot. Technically, it's metro park property......no alcohol permitted. But as long as you're cool and reasonably discreet I don't think you'll be hassled. It's freakin' Louisville, the powers that be have to know that beer and bourbon must be consumed.

But you can't do that AND hold a spot in line.

The parking lot itself isn't very big. Later arrivals will have to park along the park road and walk a bit. The adjacent Frisbee course is great for smokers....and Frisbee throwers.

As for drinking in line.....again, it's a metro park, no alcohol is the law. Having said that, i always take one last beer with me when we decide to head in. Never had a problem. I believe it's all about being cool and not drawing attention to oneself. Or maybe I'm just lucky.

Can't wait, I'm driving down from Chicago that morning. Hope to get to Louisville by 3pm, grab some lunch and probably head over by 5pm latest. Hoping Roll Call early entry gets me a decent seat!

I would expect a lengthy roll call line. When Jim played his solo show in Louisville about 3 years ago, the line was a block long an hour before doors. But, there really isn't a bad seat at Iroquois. Expect for people to rush the aisles when the show starts. Security tries to keep it to a miminum, but only up to a point.

yeah, we were wondering last night......how many of the 2348 people in attendance will be roll call members + their guest?  being a hometown show, it could be a pretty big percentage.

the sections closest to the stage are 13 rows deep. that's my goal, the closest section 2, on an aisle. still hoping to save a couple seats for friends, might be difficult.

people who leave their seats and "rush the aisles" to get closer should be shot on sight.

and stay off my lawn.

^Agreed. There's a pretty sizable gap between the front row of seats and the barricade at Iroquois, and I always feel terrible for the people who lose their front row spot because they don't see the mad rush coming to squeeze in front of them. Always seems to happen there.

No Rain!!
so excited for these shows. Still can't believe they're even playing here, and for 2 nights!
Such a treat for the hometown crowd. I love this venue.

Thanks for the info, everyone.  Glad to hear that they arent super strict with things.  Should be a lot of fun!

This will be my first (and second) time at Iriquois as well. Thursday Ill be driving straight there from work. Does anybody know how Will Call works there? Im hoping its not going to require getting into a Will Call line before getting in the real line.

there is a separate window and line, but I spoke with the box office weeks ago and the lady said the will call window will be open all day open 3 hours before show time.. i'll be picking up my tickets as early as possible.

Saw modest mouse at the amphitheater last night. I was on the rail and couldn't hardly make out the vocals the entire show, hopefully it was a band thing and not a venue thing.

LBSUNFLWR

sounds like a band thing. I've been there 5-6 times and never had a bad sound experience.

Band thing. I was at the MM show and had the same experience, but Drive By Truckers sounded great a few years back when they played there
