also didnt seem to be any jim banter (or i missed it)? has that been the norm this tour?

parkervb

curfew cut the TMP2 jam, then a pretty quick OBH. Fun set, love the couch tour. Now going to watch the season finale of last season's Game of Thrones!
Don't you ever turn it off

dontgetupset

Enjoyed the show on the radio. Every moment was great.

That being said I am BLOWN AWAY by the lack of deep cuts and the consistency of setlists. This is the main thing I comment on here so I'm not gonna repeat previous remarks but I was witholding comment until after this show. This was all of the fuss about this being the ONE NY show they would do something extraordinary. Disappointed in this tour.

MMJCOBRA

Damn, dondante through phone went west looks killer.

have you been to any of the shows? They are putting on the best possible show every night. Absolutely slaying. This band does NOT ever mail it in.

Definitely bias.... but that's the best set so far

This is what I say to myself after every time I see mmj.

i think dontgetupset was obviously saying it's not the performances, it's just the lack of deep cuts and a hell of a lot of repeats, every show had Victory, Circuital, Wordless Touch Me II, OBH and maybe one or two more, that's a bit much

Its unfortunate too, because you know they have the ability to really mix it up. Oh well, they play their asses off and it is a great show. But it's a valid argument. This is just a tour I probably would not have gone to multiple shows if given the opportunity.

Thats basically it. A) This tour has not been ideal for the fan going to multiple shows with the goal of fishing for a bust out or for a Gary Clark Jr sit in or the unleashing of new covers and B) for whatever reason I felt that this Forest Hills show had a certain amount of hype that the other shows didn't have. Let's face it: Many thought that Merriweather+Forest Hills had the best chance of being this summer's Red Rocks and they fell far short of that (based purely on setlists not the total amount of strain on vocal cords and sweat dripped).

I went to Cincinnati and Nashville and feel we got a few that haven't been played every night: The Bear, War Begun, Carried Away and Just One Thing. Plus we got Steam Engine which is not making the list every night. I did get a lot of repeats between those shows, but they killed it both nights. It's less significant what they're playing right now compared to how they're playing right now!! And I most definitely have no regrets at all about seeing more than one show!!

:)

Just looked and we also got Bermuda Highway, Holdin on to Black Metal and two covers in Cincinnati. Go take a look at that setlist.

They have set the bar so high with previous shows that I can't help but feel a little disappointed with this show and the Vermont show.  Glad I went to both but I was hoping for a little bit more diversity in the setlists.

If my calculations are correct- the Forest Hills Show was the first Gideon of the Summer Tour. That's the closest thing to a " breakout" we got in NYC, and I know historically this has not been a very deep cut.

That being said, I was there- and it was probably the best MMJ show I have seen.

I think you have to look at these shows individually not as 2-3 night runs because there not. Sure a lot of fans travel to these weekends but more fans are from the local area and only going to that one show.  Go take a look at the set lists of the three biggest tours going right now, Tom Petty, Roger Waters, and U2. Same songs every night, MMJ mixes it the fuck up compared to these. Yes U2 is doing the entire Joshua Tree so they might get a pass but still the rest of their set is pretty much the same. I would have loved to see any one of these shows the past three weekends but I'm on the wrong side of the country. The set lists may seem a little blah to some but you know they will bring it no matter what they're playing.

Echoing what was said in the post above me, those of us who look at the setlists from the perspective of a person who attends multiple shows per tour are a very small minority among the set of people who go to MMJ shows. Most of the people in the seats are locals and are probably going to go home bummed if the band doesn't play certain songs that those of us in this thread might get tired of seeing get played every night. MMJ are not Phish or Widespread or the Dead. They don't have a huge cadre of fans traveling with them to every show like those bands do.

Also both shows I've seen this tour were better than evet, so there's that too.

Anyone else wondering what the hell about last night's poster?   The image is facing one way and the band's name and date are facing the other. No matter how you look at it, something will be upside down.

Not much chance of that baby finding a frame or space on a wall at the ericm residence.

Not sure what it's called but that that sound box thing is upside down when Jim wears it around his neck.
