Defiantly more expensive than I'd like, but I'll be there. As for the support bands, to each their own, but I'm looking forward to them, with the exception of PHJB (whom are awesome) its all fresh and I havent seen any of them live so should be fun.

Zutroy

The only one I've seen is Sharon (solo in 19 and at the Wilco thing last January in Mexico). She's fantastic. Really phenomenal.

I'm not thrilled about the price increase. But after being starved of live music all of 2020... I'm in. Going to try to unite my Alaska crew with my east coast crew.

Love the undercard.  Big lord Huron fan.  Looking forward to it.
If you don't know for yourself, how could you ever know for me....

I'm on the fence but currently leaning no.  I like the lineup but the price increase is pretty nuts IMO.  It just seems like a bad value now  ( I know, I know, you can argue that seeing them live is ALWAYS a good value and most times I'd agree, but look at this ).  Here's my prices from past OBH's and then what it would cost this year.

OBH 2 - $2878 ( basic room )
OBH 3 - $3678 ( with upgrade to concert courtyard)
OBH 4 - $3778 ( with room upgrade )
OBH 5 - $4793 ( cheapest possible room for 2 people and doesn't yet include fees )

Plus we typically like to add on an extra night or two which would drive this price up close to 6k and that's before flights.  So now OBH 5 would probably cost close to 7k in total.  In past years, it was always under 5k.  I'm not trying to sound cheap but I just don't see any changes here to warrant that...kinda feels like we're getting raked over by CID and it's leaving a bad taste for me.

Don't you ever turn it off

I feel the exact same way as you - CID has always rubbed me the wrong way.  I really want to go as I know it is going to be an amazing time, but I'll be paying 2K more for the same room package compared to the last OBH.  I know these prices are consistent for other CID events, but it feels like price gouging to me.  I just don't see the added value, especially with a bigger resort and more people.  I was really hoping they would just return to the original Hard Rock location with Cloud 9 this year...I'm really going to have to think about this one...

Jbpats

way too expensive and terrible undercard. I love MMJ but no thanks.
Their pricing is close to Dead and Company who is a much bigger draw and I assume considerably more expensive to book.

the concert courtyard at HRRM is the closest I'll ever get to heaven on earth.  Punta Cana was pretty cool, too. You could wander in and out as you pleased, no entrance or exit, centrally located.

The moon palace setup......specific venue area, show your wristband to get in, tucked away in the far north end of the resort......a step in the wrong direction, IMO.

Gonna be an agonizing week trying to make a decision. Right now it's a no go, but I'm sure I'll change my mind a few dozen times each day.

This.

OBH 2 was the greatest concert experience of my life.  I had concert courtyard, and I couldn't believe how awesome the whole thing was.

Right there with you, minus the concert courtyard.  I was just telling my wife last night that the concert pavilion is my favorite venue anywhere.

On the fence for this, which sucks.  Such a huge fan of what Cloud 9 and Hard Rock Riviera Maya has done, improving each year.  In addition to OBH 2015 & 2017, I've been there for Closer To The Sun 2019 (Slightly Stoopid's festival) and am happy to be going back in early December for a second time.

Can't believe I'm on the fence...

Do you suppose some of the price increases are coming from our covid-19 fun?  It's going to be very interesting to see how sales go for this.

No this is just what CID does - they charge more for the same thing.

kyle_s9

Holy shit. I was not expecting these prices.
Will this even sell out?

I was looking up previous year prices. You could get one of the nicest rooms for the price of a basic room for this one.

I really planned on finally going this year, but this price jump is wild.

Quote from: Leather elbows on Jun 15, 2021, 07:38 PMZero interest by like 85% of the fan base. I mean look this was announced yesterday and there are only like 12 post reactions and all negative

Maybe The Jacket want this time around to be like the first OBH. Not sold out and intimate

i will say one thing, this has done wonders to calm my anxiety about scoring a room.
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

Price is an issue but doesn't make it out of the question for us. A simple scheduling question. Does the fact that it's a separate concert venue have anything to do with set times or curfew? We did OBH1&3 but I can't totally remember when shows ended at night. I don't want abbreviated MMJ sets at night because other people on the resort aren't at the show. If prices are so high do they give a shit if they sell enough concert tickets when rooms can be sold cheaper to the general public?

sillyboob

I think most of the chatter is on Facebook, but even there it's spread out across a couple of MMJ / OBH pages.

Yeah. I'm anti-Facebook so this is all I got. But it is definitely quiet here in general. 🤣

bobmono

Chatter seems low compared to past OBH events - there is usually a thread on Phantasy Tour as well and that is also quiet.

Not sure the lineup blew people away - and I know for me I am bit pissed off about the major price increase.

sillyboob

The sentiment is mixed.  Not happy about the increased pricing, the larger venue, and the lineup didn't hit home for a lot of people.  But a lot of folks are just excited that OBH is back.

I'm in the middle, was hoping for a little bit more as far as the lineup goes, but there are still bands to be added.  Stoked to be seeing Lord Huron, Sharon Van Etten, and Steel Pulse.  I'm sure Black Pumas will be great, but we'll see them at Ohana.  Hoping Brittany throws in some Alabama Shakes tunes during her set, but she hasn't done that in the past.  Not happy about the price increase, but this is post COVID, so I get that there may be some additional profit taking.  It is what it is.

Pretty sure my wife & I are going, along with our friend.  We'll end up paying about $550 more than we paid for OBH2 (airfare excluded), but this will be triple occupancy double beds instead of a King bed and rooftop jacuzzi.  But it's worth it.

Onward to OBH5!!!
