So I hear FLAC is the stuff to download - best in terms of quality.  I am a Mac User.  Whats the process I would need to go through to:

1) Download FLAC files
2) Convert to iTunes
3) Get on iPod?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

I use a free, safe program called Max on my Mac that will do pretty much any file conversion. It's also very simple and easy. I believe where I downloaded it there was also a quick walkthrough.

Heres the link, should be all you need!

I use Xact - it's free and I recommend it.  Then I convert once again in iTunes

it's simple.  as said above, very good options.  I use:

Switch File Coverter:
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

I have either a free version or illegal one, either way that shit is awesome.  you select the folder/files you want to convert them to whatever format and bit rate you designate.  easy access

then I use Mp3 Tag:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

tag the files so when I put them into itunes I don't have to rename them all or manually type in the band name, etc.  program is pretty straight up.  open it, find directory/folder you want.  files will appear.  highlight them all.  on the left hand side label it hat you want, then go back to the files, right-click? and select I think it's "save tag" or save as or something and it will tag your shit for you.  this is for sure free.

Appreciate all the help very much!!

Just one more quick question / example:

http://www.archive.org/details/mmj2010-08-29.m260.flac16

If I was going to download this show, would I need any other files besides the individual FLAC files for the songs?  There's a bunch of other random files below the songs that I honestly don't know what they are.

Thank you again!

Haven't been able to open the archive site for the last couple days so I can't open your link BUT typically included with the flac files are .md5, .ffp, and .txt.  The .md5 and the .ffp are used to verify that the files you downloaded made it all safely and completely to your computer during the download process.  The .txt file stores the setlist, band, venue, source info for the show and is used only for viewing.

To answer your question, you technically do not need to download the ffp or md5 but you would be unable to verify that nothing bad happened in the download process to your files.

Here is an old but reliable info source for all this stuff:  http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=FLAC

It all sounds very intimidating at first but like everything in life worth learning, it's a process.  Good luck!
