The correct phrase is "one AND the same". this bothers me. should it?
does the band know this, and they are just using poetic license?
am i being anal?

Yeah, think about it...it's quite a clever pun the way I see it.

"In" referring to the intangible that holds all this trivial bullshit (a joke, a job, a dream) -- that intangible being maybe life itself, or Jim's psyche -- and "the same" referring to the inherent pointlessness and eventual emptiness that everyone finds when we tally all this crap up... I've always found it the most depressing MMJ song ever.

Then again, I could be a loser philosophy student and Jim was just amusing himself!  :)
