So I was listening to the Chapter 1 disc the other day and when the song "Somebody Cares About The Maestro" came on, I realized that the end of the song has been cut off.  Does anyone have, or has anyone heard the original record that this song is from?  And if so, am I the only one that has noticed that this has happened?  It's only maybe 20 or so seconds give or take.  Basically it's where the song shifts and there is some vocal samples, etc. and an electronic drum beat right before the song ends.  I doubt this is a defect with only my cd, but I wonder if it is some kind of defect with this first pressing, or if for some reason it was cut on purpose.  I kind of liked how it was before, and it doesn't really seem to make any sense that they would cut it short like that.  Anyone have any thoughts?

This is as it was released originally on the "My Morning Jacket Does Gold Hole" vinyl single back in January 2001.

The version that is on my chapter 1 cd is as I said, cut short by 20 or so seconds and not entirely as it appears on the original 7 inch.  Does your cd, or anyone reading this have the electronic drumbeat and vocal/samples at the end of the song on their cd?  The original version has the drumbeat, etc., while my Ch. 1 cd does not.

No, it isn't, because indeed, the ending has been cut off. The CD version is shorter than the 7" version wich is, in my opinion, quite a shame, for I liked that audiomadness at the end. I don't think it's different on other versions of the CD, I guess Jim decided he didn't like the ending anymore...

Hmm, I guess I haven't listened that close (yet). I just heard it cut quite suddenly on both versions and assumed it to be the same. Actually, so far I have listened only once to both Chapters ... I will listening more closely one day soon ;-)

That's really too bad.  I liked it as it was originally as well.  But I guess what I was wondering was if this was a decision that was made by the band, or a manufacturing error of some kind.  I mean seriously, why would the band decide to change it?  Doen't seem to make much sense. Seems like if they weren't really happy with it thet just wouldn't put it on the cd.  You know what I mean?

Oz

Well, it could very well be that they're happy with the first part, but not with the second. I think it's hard to believe that it's a manufacturing error, 'cause it occurs on a very logical point in the song, not just randomly. That would mean it's an error with a sense of timing...  ;)

Whatever, it still sucks that it's not the entire version.
