Ah, okay, there's some referring to Neil in the innersleeve of Citsouaca? What is it? I'm gonna wait for the vinyl version to be released, so I don't have it yet.

Ah, OK.  Thanks so much O.  Now I have a clue.  But, I knew that part before.  Does anyone really know who Neil is?  C'mon, who's got it?  And, was this a real concert in Braintree, MA?  If so, why the hell wasn't I invited?  Thanks.

I got my copy today,Thanks Pingy!

There is no quote on my CD that says anything about "Neil".There is some reference to "Gordon" but I don't know who that is either.

I do not understand where this came from unless there are different versions released with different packaging.

Now the disc is great but short.

The one thing I noticed on mine is that on the back of the CD digi pack the song list is not in the same order on the disc but no big deal.

"The Bear" sounds great Jims voice is so awesome!

Here is what is written on my innersleeve:

How could we resist such an invitation. To gently and quietly play our friends halloween party.in our most favorite of cities,Braintree,Mass...so we rented out the Startime Pavillion, near downtown Braintree, invited his closest friends, and set the stage for a most enchanting night. The air was crisp,,the moon was high, and the champagne-delicious! We hope you enjoy listening to this moment in time as much as we enjoyed living it.

"Why? I don't have the time or intelligence to make all the connections.Like my friend Gordon(this is a true story)who, having grown up in Braintree,Massachusetts, had never pictured a brain snagged in a tree until I brought it up.He'd never broken the name down to it's parts.By then it was too late. He'd already moved to Coral Gabbles."

                                   - David Berman

The first paragraph is not in quotations but the 2nd one is apparently credited to David Berman.

I hope this clears things up.

Hi Link,
It is my understanding that this show is in fact a hoax!  A figment of the band's colective imagination!  Whoda thunk!
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

Now, who brought Neil in this, why did that person do that, and who the hell is Neil anyway? The plot is thickening...

Coltrane

David Berman is the man behind the Silver Jews (an amazing band!), but is also an accomplished poet....the quote on the inner sleve is from one of his poems......check out his book of poetry called "Actual Air." Drag City's boook publishing side puts it out...
....as mayor of Drugachusettes, I declare this pizza to be...AWESOME!!!

oh, and for all of those who were wondering, I DO have my degree in SPELLING!!!! it only took 7 years!!

Sorry everyone.  It was I who brought Neil into this.  I thought it would make a nice little topic to discuss.  I hope you all enjoyed it.
I do love Neil.

Jellyfish

Quote[I don't know who Neil is either.  I was referring to the inside of the album where someone refers to Neil.  Maybe it is Neil Young.

This is what confused everyone. There was no reference to Neil on my copy.Is your copy different?

Startime in Braintree! My Morning Jacket gets mythical in Mass.
By Larry Katz
Wednesday, May 26, 2004

Who: My Morning Jacket

What: ``Acoustic Citsuoca,'' 5-song live EP

     Where: The Startime Pavilion, Braintree

     When: Oct. 31, 2003

Why: Because the band's buddy, former Braintree resident Gordon, asked them to play at his Halloween party.

My Morning Jacket is known for spacey guitar rock, long hair and a relentless touring schedule, which includes WBCN-FM's 10th annual River Rave at the Tweeter Center on Sunday.

But it's no surprise that Jim James, leader of the sensitive Southern rockers, clearly recalls the band's acoustic show at the Startime Pavilion. For the Louisville, Ky., native, it was truly a dream gig.

``It was my friend Gordon's party,'' James says. ``I know him from grade school in Louisville, but he moved up to Braintree. It's one of the best-named places in the world.

``It was at this neat little pavilion,'' he continues. ``There were trees around it and Christmas lights and candles. Just a laid-back affair. It was a Halloween party, but most people showed up in normal clothes, which was kinda disappointing. But, yeah, there were people in costume. My favorite was the guy who came as a No. 1 pencil.''

     Why play acoustic?

``They wanted music that wouldn't be overwhelming,'' James replies. ``Like if it was a big loud rock thing, it would have taken over the whole vibe of the event.''

The resulting EP, ``Acoustic Citsuoca'' (``It's `acoustic' backwards,'' explains James, ``but I don't ever actually say it out loud''), offers songs from My Morning Jacket's three full-length CDs, including its recent ``It Still Moves.'' But beyond providing an atypical miniretrospective, James says it is a nod of appreciation to both Massachusetts and the five-piece band's two newly departed members.

``I love your fair land,'' James says. ``Whenever we play in Massachusetts, the crowd is notably more excited than in other places. It's really weird. I don't know if it's something in the air, something in the drinking water or what, but there's something about Massachusetts and people going nuts. And it really makes a difference to the people onstage. It makes you play better and play harder and put more into it when people go nuts.

``I've wondered about it many times.'' James, who's speaking to me from a Native American-themed Ramada Inn with a view of the Mall of America in Minnesota, laughs. ``I think maybe you guys are just off the hook, as we say in gangsta talk.''

Massachusetts fans will get their first look at My Morning Jacket's new lineup at the River Rave. James' cousin, guitarist Johnny Quiad, and keyboardist Danny Cash quit the band and were replaced in February by guitarist Carl Broemel and keyboardist Bo Koster.

``We saw it coming,'' James says of the departures, ``but it was still surprising, still sad. They were just miserable. All the touring we do can just grind you down. I don't like to talk bad about touring, because I am very grateful. Lots of people want to do this and don't get to. But it can be grueling.

``Johnny and Danny just couldn't stand it. I saw Johnny out in California a week ago and he looked so happy and healthy. He's living with his girlfriend and working on becoming a carpenter. And Danny opened a toy store, weird gift store in Louisville, which is really cool.

``So this is probably the last recording that will ever come out that has Johnny and Danny playing on it,'' James says. ``It's a goodbye note in a way, a sentimental thing. That was one of the happier times we had with those guys.''

Before James can say any more, I feel compelled to point out that no one in Braintree has ever heard of the Startime Pavilion. While ``Acoustic Citsuoca'' is a genuine live recording, the circumstances of its recording seem entirely bogus.

``Well,'' James says, ``the Startime Pavilion was only open for one show. They tore it down after we played because we rocked so hard.''

     Rocked hard acoustically?

``Yeah, the structure couldn't take the impact of the rock, so they had to level it because of public safety concerns.''

But I've been informed by a source close to the band that ``Acoustic Citsuoca'' was not recorded in Braintree or anywhere in Massachusetts. And that James has no friend named Gordon.

Can we agree to call the Startime Pavilion show a mythical gig?

``The mythical word is kinda weird,'' James says. ``It makes me think of Roman architecture. Let's just call it a Roman architecture gig.''

( The WBCN River Rave with My Morning Jacket, the Offspring, P.O.D., the Darkness, Everlast, the Distillers and others, Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Tweeter Center. Tickets are $35-$65. Call 617-228-6000. )

MY MORNING JACKET
Acoustic Citsuoca EP ATO Records/RCA

A five-track live set recorded last Halloween in Braintree, Massachusetts, Acoustic Citsuoca is a pastoral relief after the full-tilt boogie-ballast of My Morning Jacket's last LP, It Still Moves. Instead of blustering on like The Passion of the Duane Allman, the band revisit some of their beauteous old ballads, and you can almost hear the cicadas warbling along. MMJ's remarkable singer, Jim James, is often compared to Neil Young, but he's more in the tradition of great Southern mumblers like Gene Clark and Michael Stipe. Marks are deducted for James' occasional R&B-style syllabic onanism -- on "The Bear," he sings "forever" as "fuh-eruv-err-aaooww-urrrgh" -- but for a Hallow's Eve gig, the scares are remarkably few. My Morning Jacket play the Opera House May 28.
