Relatively new here, thanks for having me. I've been a big fan of these guys for about a month now...just discovered them before going to see Wilco in Philly on the 24th. Not only were they amazing, but I'm actually a bigger fan of these guys than Wilco now.

Just curious as to what other artists influence MMJ? Have they ever said anyone in particular? I really find a lot of their songs have the same feel to Neil Young's "Harvest Moon' album. Lots of the lonely reverb and wide open spaces in their music...its fucking incredible. Definately one of the best bands out there right now...

Influences? If Jim James gets that question he always comes up with something nice like Johnny Mathis' christmas albums or The Muppet Show etc. I think he's flattered but pretty tired of the old Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd comparisons.

I'd say old Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Beach Boys, 70's soul, Dylan, Neil Young, Elvis Presley, Simon and Garfunkel, Outkast, Prince and lots lots more.
They are all huge music fans. for a taste you should check out their always amazing covers. A list can be found somewhere but I don't know the link.

Oh, welcome to the board by the way!

Unfortunately I don't think they were recorded.  Check out the My Metal Jacket thread for a kickass cover comp CD.

I listened to Neil Young's "On The Beach" album alot this weekend while I was at the beach and I would have to say Jim spent a shit load of time playing along to this record.  The lead electric guitar throughout this entire album sounds so similar to the way Jim plays.

A masterpiece.  I listened to it straight through two times in a row.  It has the perfect ending lines of any record ever....."I know it's not me and I hope it isn't you"  Also, it only has nine songs........Think about that neal. ;)  Bo told me that the material we haven't heard is a bit of a departure from the traditional MMJ sound, that has me full of anticipation.  I was suprised and excited that there are 5 songs I've never heard before, I figured there would only be 3 or 4.
