The boys of My Morning Jacket are always being pigeonholed by reviewers and have been described as everything from alt-country to southern rock. They also have been compared to Neil Young and the early Flaming Lips.

Though these descriptions may seem fitting to someone unfamiliar with My Morning Jacket, they don't come close to defining the band's true sound

The record also marks the dawning of a new Jacket era, as it is the first album with newly appointed guitarist Carl Bromel and keyboardist Bo Koester.
