don't know if this has been posted yet, but each day this month jambase.com is releasing another artist's view on jerry, paying tribute to the ten year anniversary of his death.

that was awesome thank you!!!

I've always thought (well since 02'when I stumbled upon the Jacket) that there are similarities, not so much in the way they play their instruments...but the emotion in which the song is delivered...chilling

Jerry's... High Time..To Lay Me Down..Wharf Rat..Comes A Time

Jim's...I Will Be There When You Die...I Needed It Most..I Will Sing You Songs...The Bear

Both have ballads to Die For, as well as, outright jamming

Jerry's The Other One solo's are so intense. We don't even need to comment on all of the intense MMJ stuff. For not sounding really anything alike...these guys are strikingly similar...

Wonderful, thank you for the kind connection

Hm.  I was just thinking about that little article this morning.  It's really nice.

that steel guitar on "teach your children" is truly amazing.

That is prolly the most heard Jerry solo around the world.

Don't get me started on Garcia. I too noticed vague similarities to MMJ long ago, more in spirit and approach rather than actual sounds. The man can turn water into wine as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to hear a sweet MMJ cover of Wharf Rat, or maybe Morning Dew; heck even Bertha or Jack Straw would be killer. The Dead truly went where no other one band dared to go.
Listening to disc2 of One from the Vault right now...

btw, is Danko for Rick of the band or is that actually you last name.  Rick Danko got busted for heroine two days before I was supposed to see the band so the show was "postponed"  And then he died.  Wonderful musician in his day though!

Yeah Danko's kind of a sad story, like Richard Manuel. Danko literally doubled in size in his final years. He must've weighed a good 250 lbs.+.
