Is this a cover by both the Chili Peppers and MMJ or did MMJ cover the Chili Peppers?  (lyrics that is)

Listen to this MMJ song from the Early Recordings: Chapter 2

then listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers version from their first self-titled album(1984)

Lyrics:
Why don't you love me like you used to do?
How come you treat me like a worn out shue
My hair's still curly and my eyes are still blue
So why don't you love me like you used to do?

Why don't you spot me like you used to do?
When you whisper sweet nothings like you used to do
I'm the same old trouble that you've always been through
So why don't you love me like you used to do?

Why don't you be the way you used to be?
How come you fight so many fights with me
Somebody changed, so lemme give you a clue
Why don't you love me like you used to do?

Why don't you say the things you used to say?
How come you treat me like a piece of clay
My hair's still curly and my eyes are still blue
So why don't you love me like you used to do?

You can't keep a lovin' and a huggin' and a kissin' and I don't know why...
We don't get near or further closer land of country mouths

I don't love like a huggin' and a kissin' and I don't know why...
We don't get near or further closer land of country mouths
Take the ball...

Passion dripping from the coyote's eyes,
He can taste his blood,
An' blood never lies,
Pale face die. - Kiedis

My Dad used to sing that song to me when I was a kid.  Plus, it was the first song I ever sang in front of people with a guitar.  It's a special one.  :)

Right on!  the first song i ever played musically and sang in front of people was Soul To Squeeze by the chili peppers (on bass)..other fucker bailed out the night before the show haha.
Teenager In Love by Dion and the Belmonts is really fun to play in front of people.
