This makes me think of the treatment that "They Ran" received on the last tour.

what is this treatment you speak of?

Listen this this next to the album version of they ran

There's a lot of trust that Jim and company will do the right thing and deliver another great and diverse album. I hope this is true. However, no musician is or has been immune to putting out albums that are disappointments or downright stinkers. Not saying this will be the case here, but don't think it's not in Jim to put out something less than steller either. He is human afterall.

War End

3 words.........Guitar....Guitar....Guitar.

hey hitchhiker, speaking of "They Ran," the only video clip I took at Langerado is the outro of that song. I love the "treatment" as you refer to it. It makes me think of a high school prom in the 50's. Like Michael J. Fox is about to show up to take over on guitar or something.  I'm gonna post that video tomorrow.  Honest.

It "closed" the show quite a few times on the last tour (before the encore) and I thought it was a perfect way to do so.   I really hope they keep this tradition of bringing out an old tune that they don't ever do live, and mixing it up a bit.  I love those little surprises.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I think about MMJ pretty much all of the time, but I haven't given too much thought to what their next album might sound like.  I honestly think that anything they do will be nothing but genius and soulful.  Jim could make a hip-hop album and it would somehow be beautiful.

i don't think anyone can predict how the next album will sound.

i've been thinking about this since January..and there are so many directions in which they can chooose to go!
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

I agree that there's a possibility of some soul influence, but what about jim playing a banjo???    The kidzapalooza performance was the first time I've seen him play it.  I don't know if the new album will include some pickin', but I would certainly dig it.

sweatboard

Man, I hope he breaks out "If It Smashes Down" on the next tour.
There's Still Time.........

He plays banjo on if it smashes down.

also, that thing he played at lolla was not a "traditional" banjo.  it is a hybrid guitar/banjo with six strings like a guitar but sounds like a banjo.  I'm not sure which he plays on if it smashes down.

just pointing those things out.  i agree that banjo would be cool on the new album.  How about soul banjo?  if anyone could pull it off it would be Jim!

Wow, thanks for the info.  I had no idea that a hybrid existed...pretty cool.  "We're gonna have soul-banjo party tonight."   ;D

ItsAllSticky

Haha, "soul-banjo." I love it.  I noticed he was playing regular guitar chords on the video of Rainbow Connection.  Might try to tab it out today.

"Soul Banjo" shall be the name of my ska-country-industrial band.
I'm not saying it's easy...walking into sweet oblivion.

Sleazy Rider

I don't know if it's a prediction but I would love some Jim and Carl colaberations, musically and lyrics. I been listening to Lose Whats Left recently and I think Carl is a fuckin' awesome musician (we already knew that), composer, and lyricist (SIC?). Plus he's just an all around good guy and I would love to see his name on some song credits. I think they could work an even groovier magic than they already have. What do you guys think?
Politics. It's a drag. They put one foot in the grave, and the other on The Flag.

cmccall

I agree with ItAllSticky:  Not whether will "I" like the new album, but where will it take us next.  Very astute.

I'm glad you reminded me about that.  I forgot I downloaded that on my computer and never burned it to disc.  Now I have a Carl solo album to look forward to!
