Jim in an interview once said:
"There's a bar in Lexington, KY, by the arts school where I went to college, and it had burned out but was still standing. We were walking around town late one night and went in. They had pulled out the pool tables and cigarette machines that were all burned." James continued, "We went downstairs in the basement where they had these stage lights coming out of the ceiling that were still turned on with yellow colors and stuff. On one of the walls there was this poster, but I couldn't touch it... like it wasn't there but it was on the wall but it wasn't on the wall. The lady in the poster was wearing this robe that said "MMJ" on it. I took those initials and made My Morning Jacket out of it."

well...in the interview he said he couldn't remember if this experience was real or a dream...

haven't you had a moment where you felt like you experienced something, but it felt like it could have been a dream...maybe that is what he meant or he could just be messing with everyone's head...
