Hey everyone. My name's Peyton Lambert. I am a frequent reader of these forums but have never posted. I am here to relay a serious message that I would like you to hear, however I would first like to give some "background" information. I am fifteen years old, and although that is a young age, I am very knowledgeable in the ways of music and the behavior of bands. I am in a band, sort of a garage band, I suppose; I play the drums. Of the other two members, the guitarist is my brother. He is 18. The other my brother's friend (and now mine). He is 18 also. He is the bassist. All of us agree on music. I'm not going to say we like "rock and roll" or "jazz" or "country". I'm going to say we like good music. We like music created by talented muscicians, music with meaning and depth. We enjoy many classic rock bands and many modern bands, such as My Morning Jacket. We like jazz and other styles, also. All of us, however, have a special favorite that spans all the stereotypes and styles, which is psychedelic music. We love psychedelic compositions and "jams." We play this type of music. I suppose you could call us hippies. More-- "modern"-- hippies. Now that you know a little about me and my band:

I am going to tell you our partial story. A couple years ago, I heard about My Morning Jacket. When I first heard them, I heard One Big Holiday, a wonderful song. I loved this music, however I was not aware of how absolutely astounding this band was. Over time, as I became more and more experienced and knowledgeable with and about music, I listened to more and more of them. Simply put, My Morning Jacket has changed our lives. They have set us on a new path.

There is no band more influential (to me and band mates) than MMJ has been. Their music has touched us, evolved us, and captivated us. There has never been a band to walk to the earth that has covered all aspects of music as well as them and as completely as them. They are admittedly not the most "talented" muscicians, (although their talent is amazing) but--in all honesty-- they are musical geniouses. Jim James is a brilliant artist. He is more lyrically talented than most artist have ever dreamed. IMO, he is on par with the greats such as Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison themselves. Their music covers of style of music. They are breathtakingly amazing, and to me, My Morning Jacket is a musical messenger. WIthout them, I would not be in a band. Without them, my musical horizons would be so much more limited. They have redefined the meaning of music for me.

It Still Moves rocked my world. When Z hit stores, we all cut school to get the album and listen to it. We were astounded. Masterpieces. Works of brilliant art. Jim James, Pat Hallahan, Tommy, and the rest are brilliant, all of them. They are heroes of music, the best (not my favorite, neccessarily) band that has ever walked the earth. Ever. The only bands that I would say even come close to rivalling them in genious are 1. The Beatles and 2. Pink Floyd.

I not posting to say that I'm a wild fan, because I'm not. I am a follow. I am a believer in My Morning Jacket.

Hope you all don't think I'm crazy.

Top five favorite albums:
5. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye (Super soul psychedelic)
4. Paranoid - Black Sabbath (Extremely talented psychedelic music)
3. It Still Moves - MMJ (Not too psychedelic, but breathtakingly amazing masterpiece)
2. Z - MMJ (Far out and psychedelic, but it is a work of fine art. Beautiful)
1. Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd (Considered the Floyd's biggest mistake, but IMO is the most psychedelic album of all time. It is also a work of musical art, due to the talent of the muscicians. How someone ever created music like this, I will never know. Masterpiece)

Good day, folks.

hey petyon, why would anyone think you're crazy?? you obviously love music as much as the rest of us music obsessives!!
love a song for the way it makes you feel

Welcome to the board.

One reason why I love the Jacket (and why I saw them 6 times in  5 months in Birmingham, Athens, Louisville, Knoxville, Nashville, and Cincinnati) is because they give me that same "special feeling" that Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith and Van Halen and The Who gave me when I was 15.

Wait till you see them live.

ali

i was in love with pink floyd, led zeppelin and early U2 (odd mix i know) when i was 15...

aerosmith & van halen - that brings back some memories...
love a song for the way it makes you feel

Welcome Aboard Sir - that's one hell of a top five for a 15year old! My taste in music was probably pretty shit when I was your age.
Great to see some love for What's Going On  :)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

wellfleet

it sure is nice to see them craaaazy kids listen to some quality tunes.
when i was a baby, the only way i would fall asleep was if my dad played floyd's Wall all the way through. twisted, i'm sure... so it was fitting that my first ever concert was the division bell tour. i know it's not vintage floyd, i know it's not the same, but i was 12 and buzzing off a contact high from all the stoners and i got to go with my dad and it was awesome!
Peyton... never apologize for your musical taste. like zycartrobz said, if it gives you that special feeling, it's gotta be good...
everything sucks. really.

I'm saying the same. That's really one hell of a top five. My taste in music was also very shitty when I was 15. Anyway, Welcome! ;)

Right on - as much as I love the albums and can listen to them over and over and over ... the 3 live shows I saw this year were incredible. The Indy show left me speechless.

I have no qualms in saying the Jacket have achieved the "Greatness" status and few bands really reach.
