i was listening to the 6.3.07 Rudyard Kipling Benefit after streaming the Monsters Of Folk and noticed something interesting. Jim plays a song called Ordinary at this show and on the MoF album, the very same song is called Magic Marker. either way, i love this song and the new album.

that's great, dark. it DOES remind me of a SS poem. if i had a child, this would make the first cut of a bedtime child's mix, probably brakeman, too.

I was just thinking the other day while listening to Brakeman that M.Ward should make a kids album. Seems like the perfect combination.

I mean, listening to Raffi as a kid was pretty decent, but Im sure my parents had enough "skidda-marinky-dinky-dinks" for a lifetime. As a parent, playing some M. Ward album would be pretty sweet.

This song really showcases Jim's songwriting...when everyone harmonizes on the lyric "taste and see." Taste and See is the title of a song that was played a lot during communion at my church. It's probably an older spiritual that was adapted for Catholic services but it is really cool how Jim slips it in there.

That was the general belief after the Rud show two years ago but it appears that it isn't the case. He played dondante, talked about Aaron, and then went into this song, but it seems that it was just the next song on the setlist not one of Aaron's songs.

I do think it's another song in reference to Aaron though, are you of this assumption D? He just gets way to emotional when he sings it... especially since he's been at the rud both time's he's sang it.
