Perservation Hall rounds up Waits, Seeger, Bird, & James for benefit comp
Article

This article highlights the historic Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans and a forthcoming album release that will go to benefit the band's outreach program. The album is a collection of music recorded over the past year that includes collaborations of some of the most talented musicians in the United States. The artists involved in the project include Tom Waits, Pete Seeger, Merle Haggard, My Morning Jacket/Monster of Folk's Jim James, Andrew Bird, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Richie Havens, Jason Isbell, Angelique Kidjo, Amy LaVere, Del McCoury, Budy Miller, and Paolo Nutini. The Preservation Hall has a history of community outreach through their music. This is also beneficial because of the rich history of New Orleans music and diverse background. These type of albums show how music doesn't just have to be all about business. Music can reach people in a way that other mediums can't. Will we see more of this type of compilations in the future? Time will be the ultimate deciding factor; however this shows a step in the right direction.
