D.C. show, another kick-ass night of music...

Although my favorite show of the three I have been lucky enough to catch was @ Starr Hill in Charlottesville, MMJ @ the 9:30 still kicked some serious ass.  Dr. Dog did a great job opening, Citizen Cope mellowed things out a bit, and then the opening chords of One Big Holiday filled the well-packed venue and the boys from can-tuck-ee did more of their magic.

I don't think the guys in the band can check this board while they're on the road but it seems like they have read at least the thread talking about how their sets are mostly the same.

Tonight they still stuck to their crowd pleasers, OBH, the terrific closer that Run Thru is, Just One Thing, etc., but this was the first time I'd heard them do Old September Blues and I don't think they performed Masterplan at either the Charlottesville or Richmond shows.  Plus, tonight's rendition of Steam Engine was different and the usual intermission segue, where the guys leave one by one and Patrick alone kicks the crowd's ass with his solo, was absent.  My hats of to these guys, good job tonight.  Again I am floored by your music and the energy you share by playing it.

Set list (MMJ's guitar tech promised my GF a set list last Friday night, other fans got to them before we could, but she got one tonight!):

One Big Holiday
I Will Sing You Songs
Masterplan
Picture of You
Easy Morning Rebel
Old September Blues
Lowdown
Just One Thing
The Way That He Sings
Steam Engine
Mahgeeta
Just Because I Do
War Begun
Run Thru

Picture of You was rad. They had slowed ot down alot.

Carl and Bo sounded great. MMJ had a much more full sound than they've had before. I think we can only expect things to get better as the guys get more comfortable in their positions.

They played Masterplan and Old Sept Blues at the Lancaster, PA show, as well. So, they weren't completely new additions to the standard set list.

Agreed, I wonder if anyone was taping this show?

Again I agree.  I wonder how much of the fuller sound was the band and how much of it was the 9:30's sound system?  The Citizen Cope set reminded me of just how nice their setup is, the bass was making my clothes move.  Reminded me of when I saw tricky there and was getting nauseaus (sp?) from all of the bass.

Anyways, hat's off to MMJ for the killer show :)

Ah, I missed the Lancaster show sadly.  Damn head cold.  I was hoping to see them two nights in a row this weeekend like I did last weekend.  Talk about ringing ears!

It wasn't just the sound at the 9:30 (which is almost always fantastic) since this is the 3rd time i've seen them there and this was the best.

Citizen Cope is just not the kinda thing I can get into. All the songs sounded the same to me and that mumbling vocal style just doesn't appeal to me. The bassist and the drummer were really good and yeah the bass was loud as hell.
