read the boards all the time but i felt like i needed to post because there havent been too many reviews on this solo tour. well i went to the show not having a ticket. it was 99 percent bright eyes fan... sort of the ghost world set, everyone looked like they just failed there art history exam. so im desperately trying to find a ticket and who do i see outside but jimmy. i yelled out and said that i was here to see him. no one recognized him, he seemed so out of place. what a real nice guy, he was sorry that he couldnt swing a ticket.he left when he had to do a phone interview. right after i spoke to jimmy low and behold a woman just came up and gave me a ticket for free. the show was def collaborative, m. ward was great, i just picked up some of his albums this path month, got sort of a jack johnson thing going but a little bit more rootsier. then jimmy came out.. i was going nuts around all these bright eyes people. i swear everyone around me had these cell phones and they were either taking pictures with them or sending text messages throughout the whole show. so annoying. jimmy played as i can remember, one in the same, the bear, bermuda highway, golden , the bear, your still on my mind, and girl from the north country to close the show. i think there was a new song and im forgeting the other, its from tennessee fire. they had a pedal steel player who could really bend the strings, soaring sound that sounded like a lonely eagle. when jimmy sings thats how id imagine how god songs. oh i forgot they closed the show before the encore with at dawn!..incredible, conor oberst had this bell. not that big a fan of his, a little affected but a friend of jimmy james is a friend of mine. oh one last thing, jim played bass!!!!!! he was playing bass for conor's song. he had a good country tempo shuffle but he looked like a guitar player playing bass, he wasnt most natural up there. it was funny he called the crowd "smooth and full bodied" i think he really liked the crowd because they were so quiet but it was sort of a disinterested quiet i felt. said the venue was insane, its this old 30's movie theatre that looks like a mausoleum, sort of like phantom of the opera andhe said there is an "evil spirit there" i thought that was funny because it was the first show at the newly renovated theatre bet the suits didnt like that!

Great review, thanks. Jim's setlist sounds so great. I'm gonna be really upset if I can't find a ticket outside the Boston show on Sunday.

M. Ward was great and I have found some new tunes to play. As for Conner ( Bright Eyes) i could do with out his style of music, I appreciate it but i guess I'm over that I'm sad and hate my Parents feeling in music. Jim actually made it hard for me to breath at times, because i didnt want to miss a note. The girl sitting next to me actually set when Jim went on after Conner, "he's like an angel." so f* ing true. what a great preformer, do try to see him solo if ya'll can.

I have some videos of Jim's set last night in Jersey City - One in the Same and By My Car.  My friend took them with his digital camera and I'm planning on uploading them to my website soon.  We were in the front row, but even still, the video is not good...though the audio seems to be decent.  Not great but worth hearing for sure.

I'll post back with the link when I'm finished uploading everything.  I'll also have some pictures.

Jim does indeed have the voice of an angel.  I felt like I was in church, and the venue was perfect.  Don't let your opinion of Bright Eyes fans spoil the show for you.  I'm one of them too, and I know for a fact there were many in attendance last night who were there for everyone, not just Conor.  At least from what I heard around me and from the boards I visit, Jim blew everyone away.  I saw him with Conor and Beth Orton at the Bowery Ballroom back in early June and that's how I got really turned onto him, though I'd listened to My Morning Jacket before...so when I heard he would be playing with him again, I jumped on it.  M. Ward too, who I've adored for as long as Bright Eyes.  The show (shows actually, I went to Philly also) was fantastic  :D

Wow, great reviews guys... I'm something of a Bright Eyes fan myself, even though I only have Lifted. I can understand how you hate the "I'm sad and I hate my parents"-feeling, marcia, but with Bright Eyes, I think it's never those nu-metalish dumb lyrics, he does have an original approach, and damn, I love his voice. But that's all just a matter of opinion, ofcourse. Goddamn, I wish that show would come to Europe...  :-/
I'm ready when you are

that's what she said

as my girlfriend put it after this show...

"Jim's voice just soars... and takes you with it."

I LOVE this girl!
