Hello all :)

Truly outstanding show last nite here in San Francisco (which I just happen to be visiting from the East Coast, woohoo!)....I didn't see too in-depth a review of the San Diego show so I thought I should do my best to convey what a special evening it was here...I'm not sure if this is a new setlist they'll be playing a lot more of but if it is you guys are going to have your minds blown.

First off, the setlist was *nothing* like the two previous times I'd seen the boys before (at the TLA in Philly and Pearl Street in Northampton, which as you probably know had fairly similar setlists). I know I'll probably leave out a bunch but I remember for sure the opener was One Big Holiday followed by O is the One that is Real and then Dancefloors. About a third of the way through the show M. Ward came back onstage with the full band for a lovely version of Golden and Death is the Easy Way (which absolutely owned me) and accompanied Jim on an unbelievable One in the Same (!!). A handful of new songs, maybe 3 or so. No Phone Went West to my sadness but beautiful versions of Lowdown and Way That He Sings, Steam Engine, etc. Blazing cut of Run Thru. Gorgeous performance of Strangulation! Also, they did indeed play Cobra again (my very first thought was, Jesus! Have they played this before?), about 12-15 minutes' worth at least. I was slightly sad not to hear X-mas Curtain or The Bear but believe me when I say there were *several* points in the evening when I asked myself if they weren't recording the show for a live release or something, since the setlist had so many rarities that were played so effing well...ended with an absolutely scorching Mahgeeetah and left us all very much wanting more.

What else....Jim and the boys seemed very happy with the crowd (which was extremely quiet during the quiet songs and jumping and singing along during the loud ones--just a great audience all around) and with playing at the Fillmore. M. Ward gave a great opening performance, backed by MMJ on all but a few (2-3) of his songs. Do not miss that guy, for sure...

I'm sure I'll remember a ton more once I hit Post but to end things let me just say I HOPE for your guys' sake that this setlist is played a bit more this tour. You guys are in for a real treat. Now I can't wait until Hartford and Philly.  :D

Thanks for posting that!
It was truly a wonderful wonderful show (my second time, as I missed them at Slims :().  They played so tightly, their sound was great his voice was sweet as ever, and the drummer simply knocked me out, what great musicians.  It's amazing how powerful and raw their live performances are (compared to their albums).
I was definitely not ready for them to go (damn those curfews!) I really wanted to hear Masterplan, but like you said, there were so many wonderful songs it was a great night.  And yes, the crowd was certainly showing their appreciation, I hope they left feeling the love from San Francisco.... ;)

Cheers!

I was also at the Fillmore last night and thoroughly enjoyed this show, as well!  Quick question, what song did they play towards the end of the show with the "clapping" sound dubbed in? That beat was incredible.

I can't wait to see these guys again.  Great show!

Caught my first MMJ show at the Fillmore - great energy but I was slightly disappointed that they didn't do a few more slower numbers - would have really liked to hear "They Ran" "The Bear" and especially "By My Car."  My friend was particularly bummed that they didn't do "Masterplan" - that was her theme song while putting the finishing touches on a 9-year dissertation last week :-(

On a side note - I bought a really cool MMJ T-shirt, the green one "Louisville Metroparks Dept." and darn it, I grabbed a size small but need a medium.  If anyone can get me a medium of this shirt, I would be your best bud and pay you besides  :-)

I wonder if Cobra was actually on the set list. There were guys behind me ( I was upfront to the right as usual) screaming the whole time at Jim to play it. It was really obnoxious. I appreciate all their stuff, though of course I have a few favorites.

It was neat to see them in San Francisco but by the time they were done, I really missed Louisville and was ready to fly home.  I'll see some of ya'll at Lebowski Fest!

Anyone else from KY in the Fillmore audience?

C-Monkey,

I'm from Ft. Thomas, KY and was at the show.  Planning on seeing them at Bogart's, as well.  Do you know what song that was that they played towards the end with that sick beat and the clapping sound dubbed in?

Hey, the word on the street here in the bluegrass is that Johnny Quaid is living in CA.  Any guest appearances to report?  You never know.
