I set a buddy of mine up with tix for the Allman's show at Great Woods (aka Tweeter Center) and he came home with an "instant live" cd set of the show and I was like wtf?!? so he let me borrow it to burn it but I guess they have a big set up they carry with them to shows to create these recordings.  whaddaya think jc?  give th'ftp a rest and convince Patrick & co. to rig one of these setups at their shows?  I mean, they've got a hug tour bus now and all  ;)

I'm a huge fan of bands doing this.  I might freak alot of people out with this but, I own all 73 shows from Pearl Jams last tour.  The band that I really wish would do this right now is Sonic Youth, I would probably buy every single one.  The Mars Volta is another one I would have to collect pshychoticly.
There's Still Time.........

sounds like a perfect idea...except i would be buying too many cds.  If the technology is available then more bands should pick it up.  I bought a shitty bootleg of tool in Toronto at a festival a few years back just because i went to that concert...i knew the quality would be crap, but my point is they could actually make good money by doing this.

if ya think about it it is really serving 2 purposes--the fans get great copies of their great times at the shows and the bands get new, innovative income streams.  btw JC, yust kiddin' about giving the ftp a break  ;) (unless you like the sound of the idea)

Hey man, the FTP has been down due to issues with the box and the internet connection where it is to be moved to STILL isn't installed yet.  Bummer.

I wholeheartedly support the idea that live Cd's sold at shows is good.  The question is, what shows, what formats, who does the work, etc.  I don't have anything professional by sound engineer standards, just a computer and the graciousness of fans who have recorded shows and want to share them.  I would gladly do the work of burning them to CD's if asked, and you are right, it would provide another income stream.  I also believe that people would pay upwards of $10 for good quality live Cd's, and still have an interest in downloading them from me or anyone else hosting shows.  This is great, it's about MMJ and spreading the good word on the best band in America through whatever means necessary!

Rock the house!

I think it was in Rolling Stone that I read Klear Khannel (or Krispy Kreme) bought the rights to the technology used for these instant live cds, and so they get a cut of every one.  No shit.

Uhm, yeah, that kinda freaks me out - even though I think it's kinda cool as well. SY and the Mars Volta really create something during their shows, so yeah, it'd be cool if they did something like that. As for bands that just play their songs though, like Pearl Jam or MMJ, it's nice to have a copy of the show you attended, but 73 is a bit crazy. But I like freaks!  :)

I'm not really sure if I would buy all those CDs, though. Somehow live CDs never really do it for me. But it's a cool idea!
I'm ready when you are
