I'm missing the Chicago show this weekend so I'm taking a road trip. Anybody familiar with the venue/area? Surely there's a nice bar nearby. Seems like a college-town area.

The venue is downtown which is all basically made up of the UW. It's a very small venue and attached to a bar called the Regent St. Retreat.  There are several other bars on Regent St., none of which are all that great.  Otherwise you can walk a few blocks to State St where there are many many bars.  Should be a pretty cool show considering the size of the venue.

You're a good man, sir. I figured it was a somewhat hopping college area so I hope we have time to walk around and check it out. Never been there before. Good to know it's a smaller venue. I guess Schubas in Chicago was the last time I've seen them in a smaller place, before they moved up to the Metro and the Vic.

The venue, the Annex, is not the best place to see a show in Madison. Drinks in plastic cups?!?!?  WTF!  I could go on, but what's the point really.

I don't think the sound will suffer, however... so it's got that going for it.

Check out the Greenbush before/after.... it's subterranean!

I'm looking forward to it, sub-par venue or not. It'll be cool just to see them in a smaller place in a town I've never been to before.

The venue isn't really sub-par.  The sound can be excellent, but it can also be kinda rough.  Depends on the band.  I would think they'd be able to mix MMJ pretty well, so it should be good.  It's nice and intimate.  You should have a great time.

You're also coming to Madison for the craziest weekend of the year.  If you stay, make sure to check State Street out on Saturday night, as there will be thousands of people in costumes walking up and down: definitely a sight to see.  Friday night will also be crazy, but Saturday's the big night.

Also, check out Ian's Pizza if you get a chance.  Probably the most popular "tourist" eatery.

Awesome. I'm out the door, bitches. Rock and roll.

That setlist looks right. The question mark in there was 'The Dark' which was nice to hear, really the only older one they did.
Amazing show, I must say. The venue was small but very cool and accomodating, which made it a great night. Sounds was fine, although I couldn't hear Carl as much (we were standing in front of Jim/Bo); actually mixed pretty good overall.
This was easily the best show I've seen with the new lineup, and after the great outdoor show at Randolph St. in Chicago, that's saying something.
The Z material was incredibly tight, and sounded even better live. I still think they can do without the drum machines but it didn't bother me too much since I was expecting it. And Jim had some kind of multiple vocal effect for 'Wordless Chorus' and the back up part for 'Anytime'. Seems like Bo/Carl could fill in those parts fine, since they covered vocals very well on a few other songs.
Highlights were the emergence of Bo and Tom as focal points on the sound. They've always done their jobs well, but they really stepped up big time. Tom got downright DIRTY on the bass (end of 'It Beats for You' and 'Off the Record) and Bo was adding tons of color on the keys throughout.
I'm so glad I caught this show. Great time.

It was such an awesome show.  I really hope a recording of it, or at least some pictures from it show up somewhere soon.
